Title: They are attacking our base
Post by: mutha on January 24, 2017, 12:14:37 AM
TBH in all the time I've been playing, I've never understood when that guy says this.

Which base? Why is he telling me now? Am I supposed to do something? What does he mean by attacking? A lone bomber? A horde? Are they about to hit the base or are they entering the sector? What sector? Where? Who? Which direction should I run away?

To me he might as well be saying, "They are coming to try to kill us."

Someone enlighten me please!

It's supposed to let you know someplace in your country players are attacking a base or bases. Then you are supposed to check your map for flashing bases. I only get worried when he says to protect our sheep.

Well then can he announce  more obvious things like "They are whining on 200" or "The Southern boys in the GVs are drunk" or "The pony is running"?

Variations of the theme is a welcome feature in AH3 compared to the laconic female voice saying "The base is under attack." One could argue about the fake accents in some of them but nevertheless the message changes from time to time.

Back in AH2 I changed the Warning sound to a fading mix of a certain accordion tune and a snippet of a Soviet radio propagandist saying something like "Finnish citizens, revolt against your fascist leaders..." and the tune was a record having been played three days in a row to prevent soviet radio mines from getting the trigger signal until their batteries ran out of power. I wish I could do the same for AH3.

Such matters are not considered "news."

When I worked on a certain WW2 Flight Sim, we recorded guys shouting r/t things in their native language, and added radio static I think I have the script somewhere. We had Polish, French, German languages, English, South African and Scottish accents, etc. Even recorded Japanese guys in Tokyo.  Super fun, and made the sim exciting. We called out altitude. We didn't do Russian front so no Russian.

My fave was the English-accented guy shouting, "Trade Approaching!"

Maybe we have canned r/t announcements like what's in Copprhed's sig:

Flight Leader: "Bogeys at 2 o'clock!"
Wingman: "Roger, It's 1:30 now, what do I do 'til then?"

One of the writers told me the story of a BoB vet told him. During a sortie, Spit pilot got shot down, and all the way down he was cursing out his squadron mates on the r/t for not covering him.

Used to turn her off when we had the option to control individual sounds, but she wasn't grating like the current version.  I'm going to turn off my warnings (again) and lose audible check6 in the process, because I just can't stand it anymore.

That is actually a line taken from a British war movie, the name escapes me right now.
