Title: Pickup Mission tips
Post by: shotgunneeley on January 27, 2017, 08:50:57 PM
I want to get into creating pickup missions in the MA. So far the missions I have been creating have garnered a lack-luster response (most of the time its me/myself/I). What are some tips I could try to get better participation in my missions. Most of the time, I create strat raids with B-17s and escorts. I generally plan a what I should think would be an engaging target for game play - not too far, not too high, not too dull, not too suicidal. I give options for both bombers and escorts, plan my loadout options and launch fields properly, advertise my intentions on country, and give 20 minutes to join up. I've been playing since 2008 spending time with the 100th and 91st Bomb Groups. I am currently not in a squad as my game time is too spradic to commit regular time and I don't play for the best score. How can I be more appealing to create a good mission?

P.S. The pickup mission editor seems a bit buggy. I'll select a new flight, and the loadout options will correlate to the previous flight. For example, I created flight 1 as a B-17 formation. When I added a second flight, it would still give me the loadout options for a B-17 despite having selected a P-51B.

While strat runs are something that is "good for the team", it really isn't a mission that many players see as much of a help to the "win the war" effort.

Missions that take bases would be a more "likeable" type mission.

Planes, most players these days like the ubur planes. Mission with "themes" don't interest players as much. They are looking to get a job done, period.

The game is very watered down version of what it was. 5-6 years ago you could post a mission with GV, fighters bother hvy and light and buffs and would get all kinds of help. Today, hvy cannon fighters get the job done.

Most important, if you want to lead missions, KEEP POSTING THEM!  It takes time to build a "rep" as a mission planner.

Strat missions are great when you have a few dedicated guys that are willing to spend the time to do them. The problem is exactly that - TIME. They typically take at least 30+ minutes (most times an hour or more) due to location of strats and the base you are coming out of. Guys that are more dedicated bomber pilots and like doing that will join in sometimes once they get to know you.

Fighter jocks / GV'ers are looking more for the quick action fights and don't waste their time with long escorts as much. You might be better off looking at some strategic base takes as a starting point to get more of a mission planner reputation. Also, if you are not already in a squadron find one - that is usually the first good place to start for getting support on missions - your squaddies.

Cheers!

Maybe you could ask one of the mission guys to "sponsor" and help promote some of your missions.

Once folks have fun in a few of those, they might be more apt to join your missions in the future.

Getting people to join a mission is akin to hearding cats for a foray in the pool, it will end poorly.

Not necessarily. Posting "good" missions (the reason the OP posted) is a good way to build a reputation as a good mission planner. The better the "rep" the more people join, and more successful the missions are.

KEEP POSTING!

Just keep making them available and you will build your rep... Try not to spam too much on country channel, and i would suggest making missions that are "fast and dirty". More likely to grab a few pilots than if "strat raid"...

As the OP stated, nobody has all day (except cybro) to play the game so making the best use of in-game time becomes a priority to many. This translates into, "I want to use a specific gv/aircraft, and I wanna get into action now".

Keep you eye on what aircraft players are using when you're online and if you had those aircraft in your mission you might get better turn-out.

There's a few players in game that always get help when they ask for a mission, but it took them awhile to get to that point...

I agree wholeheartedly!

This is what the OP should do...... and let us old 38 jocks know. Maybe hit a base.
