Title: Hitech Per your suggestions: rock and smoothing.
Post by: bustr on January 30, 2017, 07:21:24 PM
Hitech,

I've converted the tank caldera to white rock and smoothed off the jaggies. I came up with a way to keep the panther tanks in the pit while using the smallest brush at ".1 raise elevation" against the rim of the pit. The large arc of the rounded edge at the top of the cliff hides pulling the top of the seam where two planes meet up to increase the angle of the two faces past 70 degrees. Can't see this unless you use the smallest brush and zoom all the way in....... :bhead

I tried to create a sandy beach in the screen shots below, the green clutter tile and the sand tile mix like oil and water with a bad visual meeting boundary. The euro terr set tile white rock with pines blends poorly with most everything else except for the snow tile and a high alt sparse Ponderosa pine tile sitting top left next to it.

Is this what you were thinking, it should only take me about a day to visit all the sub 5000ft rock formations and blend this in somehow. By the way, this tile, the granite tile and snow will probably blind players with the AH3 light engine at 12:00.

Now, I need to learn how to make a big water map with BBs and CVs. :)

Arlo,

Easyscore is probably one of the top terrain builders in AH. Talk to him, Greebo and the AvA terrain team and you will find it's simple. Just time intensive if you don't use a third party app to create a gray scale elevation file so the terrain editor auto creates your land. I did this old school laying down and cutting land masses from a map I created in an art program with a sector grid overlaying the land masses. Then I had to count over so many then down so many and click little bits of land as connect the dots so I could fill in the land. Then the same thing with a topo map to cut elevations. But I learned a lot getting here, like the best way to bang your head against a door frame to get a instant black out. :bhead

Get the free copy of L3DT and use it before the trial period runs out to save your head from door frames.

I hope it is this tile you want used as "rock", I'm getting the feel for blending it in now. Everything below 6000ft I have to do by hand now on all 9 islands. Then I have 2000miles of fjords well below 6000ft.

Thank you Hitech, this frees me up to get busy converting all of the rock on the terrain....... :O

While I was waiting for your response Hitech I played with the tile tool that paints by choosing min\max elevation. Put some strata into my continuous 26k high super volcano caldera wall. And for Lunatic, 99% of my spawns are in the center of a village. And those village tiles run right up to the town or strat. Which means you have buildings protecting you from spawn camping while miles long open farmland to move rapidly towards the target or villages to use as cover to sneak to the target. All of the villages and farmland on the four village tiles, you can drive through them at full speed because you can run over all the bushes between the trees and buildings. That's why my spawns are three miles from the town or strat with the town between the spawn and airfield. I suspect Waffle gave us the village tiles in the Euro terrset to use as spawns so we wouldn't kill game play by using tree tiles to help tanks take a month to drive 1 mile. You noticed greebo adjusted the clutter tiles on CrateMA a few times to thin the trees.

Some mountain strata layering fun and pictures of a village spawn. The last screen shot from the group of five before this set of screen shots shows the airfield from above that the panther in this group of five has spawned to. You can see how the village tiles provide cover and long wide open areas for GVing.

I asked myself just now, self: ever seen straight lines like this in nature?? Then self answered, nope, better change it before someone asks "whyyyyyy".....

Lazerr, I wish I could let you play with it, I've got many hours of work ahead of me now revisiting all the rock on this thing. Then a todo list I have to clear up before seeing if Hitech will accept it.

Just look at that, subdued quiet conservative green stone next to blazing eyeball white, rugged personality, textured dolomite from the alps. I friggen forgot how many geo features I put into this terrain.......... :bhead

Oh!! Yeah...... see the GV spawn in the village three miles from that strat in the lower right corner of the picture. There's two more equal distance off camera....heheheheheee.......

When I first saw your work I knew you had a ways to go.

This is where it needed to be....

This looks very nice.......... I'll go so far as to say that you have done an amazing job on this terrain.

Forgot about this one in country 2. This is the AA strat, three strat sit on the primary island for each country and get three GV spawns to them. So from the terrain editor you can see the three spawns. And then I thought a factory needs a town of people to support it. Gotta wonder if someone will Land on that grass strip and think it's ok to tower..... :O  I know I have at least one more of those on one of the 9 islands that make up this terrain.

Remove it and put the old tank town back in.

The BigPun account is a year old with 5 posts. And he knows the AH2 craterMA tank arena well enough to ask for it. Then he is declaring the tank crater on this terrain dead on arrival before any players ever spawn into it and shoot at each other. The forum account is a shade so he can throw rocks at people who know him. Every culture on earth has a word for that with the exact same meaning.

If he wants that crater back so bad, he can use the the terrain editor C:\Hitech Creations\Aces High III\ahedit.exe and show this audience his superior product over what I've created. He has the same freedom all of us do to create his terrain to make himself happy. It is not very complicated to operate the terrain editor, just time consuming.

Greebo never intended to create the tank arena on craterMA in the manner it turned out. As soon as he ported that AH2 terrain to AH3, he changed it to what he really wanted it to be back in AH2. I suspect possibly what BigPun really is asking for is AH2 itself back. But, he seems to be very willing to throw rocks when it won't cost him anything like building his own terrain.

I probably should have been more diplomatic but the lack of use of the current tank town speaks for itself.

Water ways are 12-25 miles wide. That is why I have been testing cloud fronts to give cover to task forces so they can survive breaking out of the water ways. So scott do you think you will be able to snipe anyone long range down in that pit??

OK, rock textured clutter tile conversion done, had to do it by hand below 6000ft because the elevation or angle tool would have destroyed much of the already painted terrain of the 9 islands.

1400 miles of fjord x 6 miles for the sides of each fjord = 8400 miles.

Hmmm, what was I working on before all of this, yeppers back to:

-cloud fronts.<---continue testing for 2000ft AGL cloud base fronts to help task groups break out.
-check all fields and spawns one more time.
-make sure all uncapturable are tagged.<---since Greebo tagged his flack bases next to the HQ on craterMA, I'll tag mine also.
-set rides at all fields to MA standard.

The fjords.........
