Title: Good News!
Post by: Plawranc on January 31, 2017, 10:55:47 AM
PhlyDaily. War Thunder's biggest YouTuber, has teamed up with the DevilDogGamer and played our game!

Absolutely massive for our publicity!

He did a good job for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with the game.  He obviously is not new to flight sims.  A little more practice and the two of them would be pretty dangerous.

I saw this video last night also.  It popped up at the top of my YouTube feed, and I am not even a PhlyDaily suscriber, I just watch some of his videos.

46,000 views in just one day!  Offering PhlyDaily and DDG (DevilDogGamer) subs in exchange for at least one monthly video could be a really good marketing value, especially if they are asked to focus on aspects of gameplay that WT doesn't have, such as:

More Carrier Ops
Pick-up missions (using in game vox)
Base capture missions (featuring C47 and M3 troop drops)
Ship-to-Ship Naval Combat (8" and 5" gunning)
A good ol' fashioned furball at the DA lake
Organized Stategic Bombing Raids*

*They even mentioned wanting to do this in the video.  Planning a mission day specifically for them to participate would be great.

Keep an eye out for Phly and DDG guys, and help them do some of this stuff they don't see in WT!

Hello, guys.

I noticed your excellent recent video on Aces High.

I'm a player who runs special events in Aces High called "scenarios", which are battles based on historical WWII conflicts with about 40 players on a side, flying historical plane sets, with command staffs on each side, and realistic missions and objectives.

I'd like to invite you guys to fly in the next one with us.  The next one is based on the air battles during the Battle of the Bulge and starts February 25th.  There are P-51D's, P-47D's, Spitfire XVI's, Typhoons, Tempests, and B-26's vs. Bf 109G-14's, Bf 109K's, FW 190A's, FW 190D's, and FW 190F's.  The missions involve air combat, intercept, escort, sweeps, bombing, and attack missions.

If you are interested, feel free to e-mail me at brooke at electraforge.com, and I can get you set up.

For what a scenario is like:

I've been banging this gong for a couple months - And yes, DDgamer is not new to sims, he plays absolutely everything he gets his hands on, and has a large, loyal following.  He could just be the start too.  Well done Brooke, HTC or its agents (ie you/etc) should keep the momentum up with this -

There is so many great opportunities like this for HTC to get great advertising for AH3, and the costs in terms of $ is pretty minimal.  There is a list of a good dozen YT and Twitch flight sim gamers that would be happy to review/play AH3 as well given the opportunity, and a few of them I know are very competent pilots in other games, and would probably end up subbing and dragging some of their viewers along as well, just due to the challenge and the competitive environment.

As others said, support these channels by giving them a like and a subscribe if you follow YT/etc.  There are literally millions of military/sim players out there watching these channels, and few of them have even heard of AH3 - lots of potential new players.

You could hear it in their voices, they both were having a great time, new skills to learn, new things like PT boat fire, moving carrier decks, all of it.  They got kills too, IMO that's great for the review, and to show others that it isn't all that tough to get rolling in the game.

DevilDogGamer, an X-Marine vet with 3/4 of a million subs, and all he does is review/stream/play military games, and AH3 would fit right in on his channel, but he's not covered AH3.  He did a quick review of AH2 a year ago, and 76 thousand people watched it.  There are many, many like that channel, opportunities for AH3 to get a lot of coverage and exposure.

Sounds Like they had a Killer time flying in Our Game and this the exposure we need to grasp new players
Title: Re: Good News!

That's my takeaway from their video too Molsman, they were having a blast, and even commented "we need to start flying this game more often".  If that's not a resounding endorsement from guys that fly other sims, and in DevilDogs case, every sim, I don't know what is.

I really hope more YT reviewers are given the opportunity to take a look at AH3, there are some very large channels out there always looking for quality material to play and review, and AH3 is that and then some.

I also hope the entire community does everything they can to help and new players that are on their 2 week trial, and we all go as far out of our way as possible to try and retain those new players.  Refer them to trainers, answer help questions on comms and vox, offer to let new guys join and watch you fly, etc.

I kinda would like to step in for a second and....I guess for lack of better terms "piss on the parade". I'm excited to see a potential for new blood but I sometimes get irritated when people start championing these people and wanting to give them free accounts and whatnot. We have numerous members of this community who do videos on a regular basis promoting the game but never get any recognition. Vudu15 is a friend of mine and spends a lot of time doing training and promotional videos but (IMO) he never sees the light of day for his work.

I welcome these new youtubers and hope it generates new interest in the game, but I hope we don't forget the guys that are here "year round" so to speak.

You're missing the big picture here.  That video has a huge number of views.  That means a ton of people who don't know about AH may now want to give it a try.

I would agree that we have some amazing people already a deep part of our community (anyone who spends time on maps, skins, scenarios should be showered with gifts) I don't think anyone here doesn't recognize the ridiculous amount of time some of community members spend reinforcing this amazing community.

What IS exciting for alot of us is the NEW exposure this person brought in in one day. Tough to argue with that # of "eyes on the prize". I don't really agree with the celebrity status getting "free stuff", but hey, hate the player don't hate the game.

Hopefully the # of views translates into subscribers, but let's not all hold our breath  :uhoh Then we can't welcome new players if we encounter them!

I agree with you.  Our people give a lot to the game.  It is just not the same.  It matters not what these gamers have as a goal, but them posting films with 45k hits in a day is something "our" players just don't have.  They should be given access because of what the can bring.  They should fly in an FSO and a scenario too.

Well said.  Nobody is disparaging the efforts guys like Vudu15 make, same with those who volunteer to make scenarios like Brooke, CMs, skinners, map builders, etc.  The difference is with say Vudu15's videos, is that those are great for new players that have already found the game, but because Vudu's channel is only known really to those already familiar with AH, it doesn't have an effect on reaching potential new players.  That's why having AH covered by the online channels that do have a wide audience is so important, they have large numbers of regular viewers, viewers who by and large aren't familiar with AH yet.  Once some of those viewers find their way to HTC.com, and into the game, that's when Vudu15s/etc videos can really help.

I look at it this way - there is an established ladder of information available for new players, but what's been missing is the first rung on that ladder, getting the new players to that first step on the ladder.  Free YT/Twitch/Etc coverage can help with that first step.

These comments are right on.

.....sorry for repeating myself here from an earlier post, but I saw where 1 Reddit post brought so many visits to my sons web site, that it temporarily brought down the hosting Amazon web server....and helped him launch his successful business.   I think these popular sites outside of the AH community can be huge in bringing in new players.

I'm running 4096 textures, everything maxed out except environment mapping set to 1.  i3 6100, 8GB DDR4, 3GB GTX 1060,  on a 32" 1440 p monitor, runs great, usually at 74 fps.  It doesn't take a monster machine to run this game quite well.
