Twice now, I've had a wing shot off and it still appears visually to me. If you need film, I can supply.

its a wing tip and it is hard to see

Is a missing wingtip enough to cause an uncontrollable roll? In other planes, half a wing is enough to keep you in the air. Have landed many like that... #notaP38pilot

Trim opposite side and play with elevator/throttle to get it flat.
I usually kill the engine on the opposite side and start dumping flaps on final to keep it stable.

Yeah the trick to maintaining some measure of control is being slow enough to pop flaps. If the roll starts and you're nose low you may run out of real estate. Or run into real estate actually. Now by some measure of control I don't mean fighting control, I mean possibly being able to limp home and land it control.

Of course the worst of it is when you pop that flap not realizing one flap is gone.

Funny I thought he was talking about the visual, are you "seeing" the damage in the damage report (Ctrl D is it)

Thats the problem, the report says your missing part of a wing but it is hard to see the wing damage due to their being an engine in the way.

He should still be able to see the damage. I know I can see the damage in the P-38J.
-
That's what I thought, the replies were of how do you fly it less a wing or less part of a wing
-
You can see it, but it isn't as obvious as say in an F6. You can get a much better view if you move your head up to look over the engine.

It is very hard to see on the unpainted skin P-38s. I do not think it is a L model only problem.
