Title: Showing up the P-38 guys.

After having my engine shot out from a couple of sets of B-17's over A21 last night, I soon found myself under attack from 4 P-38's. While taking a HO shot at another set, AKQwik blew off the outer half of my right wing. I pitched over and dove for the deck from 20K, trying to trim out the roll.

Thankfully the P-38's broke off after following me down about 6K and taking pot-shots from 600-800 yards out. Even with a stopped propeller, I was able to get my Butcher Bird up to 538 mph. I circled A21 to bleed off the excess speed and to try getting lined up to a runway.

I tried to S-turn near the runway to scrub enough speed to drop my flaps but found the plane highly unstable and descending quickly. I was able to get the wings level but not able to get lined up with the runway and pancaked into the grass to the left of it.

Somehow, I careened off a gun pit and onto the runway for a successful landing with nothing but an intact fuselage.

I now know why I didn't get any credit for smoking you. I was flying the B-17 that took your engine out. Nice job getting back.  :salute
