When I try to view SIDE ASSIGNMENTS I see the message "No data found for that tour." Is that a bug, or has it simply not been updated?

I do not think side splits have been done yet.  Frame 1 not until the 10th.

March FSO "ANZIO 1944" (MEDITERRANEAN THEATER 1944)

Event Dates:

March 10th - Frame 1
March 17th - Frame 2
March 24th - Frame 3

Details can be found here:

ANZIO 1944 (http://ahevents.net/index.php/fso-setups/38-mediterranean-theatre/1188-anzio-1944)

I found this frame to be particularly confusing and I'm not sure if it was intentional or not or if I'm just getting dense.

The first issue I had as Allied CiC was there was no map given for the theater that showed field ownership.  I took a guess by loading up the Anzio theater offline, but the guess was wrong.  Luckily, I planned for another alternative which was closer to being correct with the beach head surrounded by Axis fields.

The second issue I had was that the frame 1 description and the web site scenario description were different and it was unclear which was correct.  Comments to Allied squadron leaders were copied to the FSO admins, but no corrections were made.  The plane set in use for frame 1 was a minor nit.  The objectives didn't say anything about C205s or Bf109G-6s.  It changed expectations, but not much change operationally.  However, the frame 1 description said there was a fleet in 8,13 to protect, yet we had 7-8 CV groups spread across 8-13 and 8-12.  I allocated defenses assuming a single CV group was going to be the "fleet" in 8-13, which was way off from what we ended up with.

Radar dots being enabled were a surprise, but that's just because I didn't review the objectives in that fine a detail.  My fault there.

Lastly, the objectives description didn't mention we needed to provide an Ace pilot, though the scenario description on the web site did.  When the frame objectives differ from the scenario, it's never clear whether this is an intentional balance difference, a temporal difference between frames, or just an error of omission.

Overall, I still enjoyed the frame, though I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been frustrated by the above issues.

I tip my hat to the Axis CiC & squads for a well planned and well executed attack.

The time of day settings were absolutely awful. The ugliest and cheesiest (literally it looked like cheese) sky possible.

Please stop. It looks awful.

I didn't think it looked bad, however it was really difficult on my end to spot contacts over the blackness of the water. If you weren't in icon range, I didn't see you.

Plenty of confusion to go around last night. Axis orders were late and the "A" base to attack was actually a "V" base. Fog of war to keep things interesting!

Why was your Axis orders late?

I received them on Thursday, same day as always....

I actually thought taking off in the early morning in FSO, was pretty awesome.... I was wondering if others were seeing better views or worse...I think the sun rise is definitely under scale with regards to the moon and what I've experienced in real life

Fun FSO frame

Cheers

Obviously, some of us were seeing better than others Mr. Collision  :rofl

You guys came in just as I had said "Screw it... I'm going to try landing at this mislabeled v-base", low and slow in a P40 is not a fun place ;)

Was that you I collided with, actually I flew into a bunch of big broken up pieces of your P40 and was hauling tail, that made the closure rate ridiculous for as slow as you were going...wasn't no way to avoid the debris......hahaha

Was another fun fso frame

Dunno, I'm just one of the boys.

Also, FWIW, I notice the logs for "objects destroyed" counts each gun on the ships. It would be a lot different if only score-able objects were counted.

Edited to add: LCA downed 4 hangars, JG11 sank one cruiser. Don't mean to demean the fantastic fighter support we got or the difficulty of sinking ships but this is the score-able count other than landing bonuses.

The log parser is automated. The only score that counts is that which the Admin calculates and posts. I suppose we could just stop parsing the logs for display and let you guys wait until the end, when the real scores are tallied.

Some people like to see who blew up what.

Difficulty hitting ships  was only half of the problem. We got chased all the way to target by a P-38 and then got bounced by P-40s at the target. Makes it hard to focus on bombing when you are getting pinged.

6 of us got hits on ships according to the logs. All but 2 of us died in the raid.

It was very exciting for a few minutes   :x

I'm not questioning the "system". I just wanted to point out the success my squadron (LCA) enjoyed!

VF-17 was the P-40s. That 38 vectored us to inbound bombers which happened to be your 190s. After y'all were gone we got bounced by the JU88s coming from the V bases.

Why was your Axis orders late?

The orders were late - I didn't post them until late Thursday - either just before midnight or just after depending on what timezone you are in.

The reason I didn't get them out until then was it was only seven frames since we last had CIC duty i.e. 14 squads had done it since we last had it. There's 25 squads flying FSO so it just never occurred to me that we might be up again and I never checked.

I'm not complaining - I really don't mind doing CIC, it just never occurred to me we might be up again.

The thing that really caught me out as CIC was the allied cruiser fleet actually being at least 3 fleets - I didn't allocate anything like enough strike capacity to deal with that.

DWZ enjoyed our debut very much.

For me personally it was a hoot up there with only four of us.  It really brought me back to my roots, and the many challenges faced by the smaller units in the Series.  We had escort duty for the strikers hitting the cruiser fleets.  Engaged from 26k to the deck - it was hard fought the whole way, and the unit scored it's first four victories, with three of us landing in the end.

Looking very forward to more.

Talking about chill, I found myself in the mix of 10 190's alone attempting to thwart their attack on the fleet, then here came the 109's, was very fun! Even with Ditto, and some angry 109's taking pot shots at me all the way!

<S> to 10thMD, I was the one engined 38 you were engaging South of the beachead, was a very intense couple of minutes for me trying to survive.
