Title: Windows 10 SSD and HD help
Post by: cav58d on February 20, 2017, 10:18:22 PM
My rig has an SSD and a HD.  Windows is installed on the SSD (C) but I would like the option of saving most of my files to the HD (D).  I have changed save location in windows 10 to D, however when I open the D folders it's always empty, and when I try and save anything to it it won't allow me.  C- program files or program files 86.  What am I doing wrong.

Could I download everything to SSD and then just drag it to HD?

What do you mean by "changed save location"? It sounds like you set a specific browser download location.

Can you open file explorer and check to see if your D drive is available to save files to? Right click the windows icon on your bottom task bar and left click file explorer. Do you see drive D? Can you open it?

If your drive D has been partitioned and formatted and is accessible for writing and reading then you may want to use a program that was made for moving steam programs around. It works well for other programs also. This can be used to move programs that were installed to your C drive to another drive.

In case it isn't obvious, Windows (your operating system) cannot be moved to another drive. Unless you have drunk enough whiskey/gin/rum/tequila, then all things may be possible.

There's no issue in saving files on any disk you have access to. Simply "save as" and give the location.

If you wish to have your files and photos to be saved automatically to your D drive, use the Libraries. You can add and remove folders in the libraries, so simply create some appropriate folders in the D drive and add them to their respective libraries.

For programs, choose the custom installing option. It often allows you to change the location.

You can move your Libraries like your Desktop, Downloads, My Videos, My Pictures, etc. to your D drive. It's pretty easy to look up how to do that with Google.
