Rated for how many lbs? ;)
I've thought a fair bit about those kinds of rigs. The problem is, you don't get the sensation of Gs, you just get turned. So where your body would be expecting to be getting pulled into the seat in something like say, a split-S, you're actually just going to be hanging forward. I think that would mess with your equilibrium something fierce, with your eyes being told one thing and your body another.
Of course I could be wrong.
It's also put you at a severe gameplay disadvantage compared to those without. I mean, just imagine trying to drink a beer or worse yet, roll while in that thing.
It'd be fun to try for a bit though, that's for sure.

The "turning" can trick you into feeling motion. The same principle is at play with numerous roller coaster rides in various parks (i.e. star tours, back to the future, etcs...) and you are right that it won't accurately represent "Gs" the way the real thing should, but it will give you a feeling of movement and motion going up, down, pitching, sliding, etc.
It's definitely not for mainstream use, though. It would be cool to play with a couple of times.

I just checked, my wife will not allow me to have one.

I wonder if it's just something I notice more than some kind of like how some can't work with trackIR or something. I remember going on star tours and not being impressed with the motion. It felt to me about like watching a movie while sitting on one of those coin op hobby horses you see in malls.

My stomach and inner ear have checked in on this. Both stated, "HELL NO."

I think the appropriate description would be called "projectile vomiting"....But I love the concept. Wish that I could handle it.

I think it needs a roll cage. What if it got angry and smashed me? Or I land upside down and slide into one of the famous auto bounce objects in game. :bhead
And yes I want to try it! With vr it looks fun!
