Out of all the nominated movies, I so far have seen one:  Arrival.

I want my two hours back.

People on IMDB give that thing an 8.1.  I might need a corrective formula:  BrookeRating = 10 - IMDBrating.

So the Godfather is a .8 then?  :devil

I never watch any of the award shows. They are just another way artists find to pat themselves on the back. Besides I almost never, with a few exceptions like the movie that wins the Oscar.

Also, it isn't that I dislike science-fiction movies.

I like various ones of all sorts (new, old, serious, funny, low-budget, epic):
Contact
Twelve Monkeys
Blade Runner
Interstellar
The Martian
Contagion
Brazil
Total Recall
Star Wars (only 1st three, and mostly the first two)
Matrix (1st one only)
Dark Star
A Boy and His Dog
Terminator (only the 1st one)
Aliens
Barbarella
Galaxy Quest
Edge of Tomorrow
Oblivion
X-Men:  Days of Future Past
The Cube
Dark City
Repo Man
John Dies at the End
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Iron Sky
Abre Los Ojos (original -- not remake)
Planet of the Apes (1st one)
Omega Man

I've watched the winning picture "Moonlight". Was pretty good if you like coming of age stories.

Yeah, that one was garbage!

(No, there are of course ones rated highly that I think are great, too:  Godfather, Pulp Fiction, Lord of the Rings, Fight Club, Star Wars, Forrest Gump, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Next, Goodfellas, Seven Samurai, Silence of the Lambs, It's a Wonderful Life, Spirited Away, Saving Private Ryan, American History X, Interstellar, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Memento -- just going through the top 50 rated on IMDB.)

For me, though, there are often times when IMDB rates a movie high or low, and I am the opposite, like Arrival.

In addition to other things about Arrival (boring, huge plot problems) it had horrible lighting.  Horrible lighting (both lack of good lighting and obnoxious overuse of blue filter) is an upcoming fad -- like shaky cam, which the Blair Witch Project seemed to launch as a fad.

Don't watch movies. Don't even have cable TV any more.

edit: (I don't watch "currently or recently produced" movies.)

Have a great collection of the classics tho.
