I want to see film of the first BB vs shore battery engagement...
-
My guess is around 100 salvos per hour give or take the gunners experience. 120 if you dont mess up the cadence. OP glory shots vs Tu-tu's i got my money on the birds all day. Time it takes to get into position and keep that hunk of metal floating already has me calibrating my bomb sight!

The ship will live and die off of the element of surprise!

Not only do we want it, we demand it. (please)

Anybody know what the Battleship hardness will be? Same as CV? More? Less?
-
it had better be more, lots more. the Leyte map we have in the AVA with default settings, you'll kill them with 1 salvo out of another battleship.
-
I did some quick testing because I was worried about this at one time.
BB to CV\CA\BB
CV - 3 salvo
CA - 1 salvo
BB - 1 salvo
CA to CV\CA\BB
CV - 10 salvo
CA - 4 salvo
BB - 1 salvo
-
What do the arena hardness settings list them as?

No one does because I have not decided yet.
Host will need a small tweak to make the hardness of each type of ship unique.
Currently the SHP000 object is special cased to a higher hardness.

When you do the coding for the BB hardness, I hope you will take into consideration the armor plate on that BB. No small caliber rounds do should any damage against that beast - it would be like firing your .45 at a Tiger Tank. A 5"/38 naval round penetrates 127mm of armor at 4000 yards (and progressively less at longer ranges). The turret armor on a 16" turret is 500mm thick, with the armor belt on an Iowa being over 300mm, so a 5" gun should be useless. 8" with AP rounds, bombs (this is where AP will make all the difference going into a 1.5" main deck armor plate), and torpedoes should be about it as far as damaging this monster.
I hope you can model this accurately so that the BB actually becomes a weapon to be feared instead of another hulk to be sunk.

Please consider an update to all ships. Right now, strafing down ships is way too easy. Destroyers are easy, especially in low ack environments (SEA).

Yamato and her escorts were attacked by some 280 bombers and torpedo planes. In the first attack Yamato suffered five bomb hits and four torpedo hits. She continued on at a slightly reduced speed and a 1 degree list to port.
10-15 minutes later a second attack scored three or four more torpedo hits on her port side and one more hit on her starboard side. Three or four of the torpedoes hit her port engine and fire rooms. After counter flooding, this attack reduced her speed to 18 knots and she continued on with a 10 degree list to port.
40 minutes later the third attack began. Yamato was hit by at least four more bombs and four more torpedoes. One of the torpedo hits crippled her steering and Yamato became stuck in a starboard turn.
25 minutes later a fourth attack by torpedo planes hit her on the starboard side.
One hour and thirty eight minutes after the attack began Yamato capsized and exploded. The resulting 4 mile high mushroom cloud was seen a hundred miles away.
These sea monsters were pretty tough.

so harden the crap out of her is the order of the day!! LOL

But, must BB's without air cover ended up looking like this...

The CV's best defense was staying a few 100 miles from the fight... something that always happens in AH..

Let's not bash the map when it comes out..I felt bad for fester when loads of folks dissed it..
Let the map play out...enjoy it..even if it is not to your own suited play style
.I can't wait to get on it..new map is like a new stripper in the joint..can't wait to check it all out
-
The same old same old just gets old. I think everybody in the community would love to see a new map. SO LET'S GET IT DONE! GET IT DONE NOW! DO IT!
-
Let's be clear, the yamamoto was a freak at the time. It was larger than anything else by far.
-
Only way for people to accept a new map is that it looks like an old one. We don't like changes in any form.
-
I think it is just that a person who does not like something is far more likely to post about it than a person who does like it. So if 20% of BBS users hate a new map you can bet they'll write 80% of the posts about it.
