It has been reported on another forum that Robert L. 'Mouse' Shaw has passed away.
Most of you know him as the author of 'Fighter Combat - Tactics and Manuvering'
Bob was a friend to many of us here who met him at Airwarrior and other conventions. He was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. His only fault I ever found was when he looked at me, pointed at a Fw-190D9 and said that it was the best fighter of WWII. I forgave him, after I saw what he wrote when signing my copy of his book.

Yes Morf, and hopefully it gets easier to face this reality as we all edge closer.....
:salute Mr. Shaw
I recall rumors that he occasionally flew in AW, if he went to conventions, I suppose the rumors were true?

Yes he did, he flew with the WarHawks. I cannot tell you how hard I would laugh when he got into trouble knowing just how good a real fighter pilot he was. He was something else.

:salute mouse
I own his book.

<S> Sir, It was a pleasure meeting him if memory serves at Jordi's AW Con in 1999 or 2000? I'll have to go check the t shirt I still have stashed away, the measure of a true gentleman easy calm nature and just as easy to talk to, I think I'll re read the book again in his honor.

I can remember meeting him also at an AW convention way back when.
He would log in and join us online, I was flying with JG-54 back in the day and he knew all the guys and just have a great time.
One month I was in the top fighter spot for points and Mouse comes up and wings with me, in no time he fragged me twice and he apologized multiple times on his way out.
Great guy, RIP !

Cleared for the Viking Departure, Westbound, unrestricted climb. Have a good flight, sir. :salute

Bob and I had done a lot of flying together from dog fighting each other with 51's in Florida , to Him bending my air plane going off the run way.
I'll miss him.

I had the great pleasure of meeting him at 1 or both of the AH cons I came to in 2003/04 - remember playing Crud with him in a cafe on the way back from a trip to an air museum. Glad I got to meet him. :salute

Looks like an Obituary posted elsewhere is the incorrect one and shows a different person of the same name who died in 2008. Looking at the forum this originated in it looks to be true. :(

Flossy that was my post on Facebook, I can not find an obit or memorial notice for Our Robert L. Shaw. But I could find a bunch of people that could have been mistaken for him. So me, I'm hoping this is just a case of mistaken identity. The fact is when it comes to Mouse all I could find was the notice on facebook pointing here to this thread which leads to Saville's post on Warbirds Informaion exchang.
I met Mouse back at awcon 97 or 98. He was a real fun guy.
Again I'm hoping Saville made a mistake read an obit like the one I found and jumped the gun meaning our Robert L. "Mouse" Shaw is still Alive and hopefully still flying. Saville seems to know Mouse personally but I can still hope it's a mistake at least until I see an Obit.
If Mouse did pass I think we should send a card and flowers to the family to show appreciation for all he has done for our community.

I am attempting to get Saville to share more info, but he is not responding.
I too have searched and found nothing other than a Robert W Shaw who passed last Tuesday in Illinois, who was a Colonel.
I did have a thought that his family may be laying him to rest in a military cemetery such as Arlington and that takes longer, so they may be withholding notification in the news papers at this time.
I would be very happy to have jumped the gun on posting this.. beyond words.

The eb and the flow; all things come and all things go.

I also had the honor of meeting him at the first AH Con. Transported him to the Awards Banquet and shared a table with him. At the time I didn't know he was Mouse, but just another guy at the Con. That seemed to amuse him very much over the course of the evening. He signed a book for me later and that explains the gentleman side of him.
I hope this is all an error. I've spent years ducking guys with more than three offensive moves and, usually while hanging in a chute, wondering if I had just been waxed 'by the guy that wrote the book'.
Blue skies no matter what.

It saddens me greatly to hear this. I had the honor and pleasure to share drinks with him at a number of conventions, and have him sign my copy of his book. Awesome guy, very down-to-earth. A patriot. He will be missed! :salute

You gentlemen should get this verified as soon as possible. I've found a 3\21\17 obit for a Robert Shaw who was in the Air Force out of Maine.

Trust me, there are several people working on just that.
Looks like he sold his RV in August.

Shaw was a naval aviator.....but ended in the AF reserve...aka he finally saw the light:)
"After completing active and reserve duty with the Navy, he transferred to the United States Air Force Reserve and was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio, where he flew the F-4 and transitioned to the F-16."

Let's just say that Shaw and what he represents to Aviation history, is the reason that as a pup my eyes were drawn to the skies in search of those training maneuvers over my home. Now, my eyes turn to the skies for another reason, to salute his journey home caressed by clouds and the most wonderfully appointed hues of sunset skies.
Well done Robert Shaw. :salute

Not really sure why I looked at this thread again...anyway
Don't any of you have Robert's email address...let me know I think I still have 2 different ones in my contacts if needed
