Waaaayyy off topic. But I figure there is a wide demographic base here.
Has anyone had issues with Amazon and shipping lately, especially to AK or HI?
I've been prime member for years, primarily because it was one of the few online shopping places that still ship free to Alaska. There have always been some restrictions however, for oversize, or very heavy or hazmat (lithium batteries) though. They just won't ship those at all to AK or HI.
However on 3 items I recently tried to order, items that are sold and fulfilled by Amazon, and listed as Prime eligible, and not oversize or heavy, when I go to check out they tell my they are restricted and cannot be shipped to AK. Items where a handheld GPS mount and a 12V outlet for my snowmachine, and a little pneumatic pencil grinder for work.
Amazon customer service tells me "Some of the items will not be shipped to Alaska due the manufacturer's legal restrictions." Which sounds like bull to me. Why would a manufacturer choose NOT to sell their items in some states (and I know for a fact they do sell them here, I can go down to the local Ski-Doo dealer and buy them, just cost a few bucks more) and what legal restrictions? Pencil grinders are legal everywhere as far as I know.
Anyway... don't think I will be renewing my Prime membership next time around.
Has anyone else had issues? Whole thing seems really weird to me, and I've probably ordered hundreds of items (and dozens of shipments to Alaska) from Amazon over the past several years, with no issues at all before, then suddenly 3 random items in 1 order are restricted... seems like they changed something.

No, none of the things i've ordered have been shipped to Alaska or Hawaii.

I have different issues with Prime shipping saggs. I don't have problems with them refusing to ship any particular item.
I live in rural MT, and find the "2-day" shipping is more commonly 3 to 6 day shipping. The most frustrating part is when it goes to the post office, and then the rural contract delivery gal leaves me a slip in the mailbox rather than run it up to the house. Then I get emails and texts telling me they tried to deliver but couldn't, and then I have a 40 mile round trip to the PO and then stand on line to get it...not a big problem since I need to go to town periodically anyways, but slows and complicates delivery.

Have you been to the home pages of the three items you ordered and tried to find what their sipping restrictions are? Companies with shipping restrictions that sell online usually post the restrictions on their web page or you can contact their customer support to learn about it.

I've had that. Three times. About the third time I exploded on them it stopped happening...

The 2 day shipping used to be great, nor it's usually more like 3-5 days. They begin charging sales tax for many states starting April 1 so the honeymoon may be over.

For me, it's still worth it. I'm that typical impatient millennial who has literally paid more for expedited shipping than the item itself.

I guess Amazon was already collecting sales tax in most states.

I'm in Alaska and have experienced that as well, but I do not use prime.
I have found that if there are multiple vendors for the item you can sometimes find one that will ship to Alaska.

Check the fine print on the Amazon invoice, it will usually let you know if it will only ship to the lower 48 states.

I find better pricing elsewhere. Can't imagine paying for the privilege of paying more.

I use to have that problem. Then I left a little gift for the mail person in the mail box for her good service.

Ive been ordering things through walmart.com.. which is free two day shipping. My items are typically showing up a day early. Being an employee of the logistics side of Walmart.. a big goal of theres is to compete with amazon with online sales.

Well today is day 4 for a new weight belt I ordered and I have dead lifts to do after my curls....

The problem I have with amazon prime shipping is that they've started contracting with billy-bob and his chebby Malibu to do the final deliveries, so now its amateur hour. Can't find the house. Found the neighborhood but doesn't know the gate code. Sits in front of the closed gate long enough to send "could not deliver" report, then follows someone through gate and delivers anyhow. Sends "could not deliver" report and doesn't bother to wait until someone drives through. Calls me for gate code. Does not call for gate code. Puts package under front patio cover out of sight behind column (correct). Stuffs package under welcome mat in plain sight (not correct).
Annoying.

I do use Walmart a great deal about the same as amazon. Most is the free store delivery since Walmart is just a mile away in our small town. A day early is common.
I was shocked when Walmart closed all of those very small stores like in the small town just south of us. It was only open about 7 or 8 months when it was closed. Those small stores would have been great for store delivery. A missed opportunity to beat amazon in rural areas.

Very annoying. A couple years ago I'm waiting for "next day" delivery of a boat part to get back on the water. Stayed home to make sure I was here to receive....see the as swipe FedEx guy pull up outside gate, leave notice of no delivery (without attempting) then drive away. I got on the phone and raised hell with the local folks. hugahunk comes back in about 20 minutes and presents with a bunch of attitude about now being behind schedule. I explained if he had done his job first time around he'd still be on schedule.....no longer use FedEx.

Jeff Bezos, the owner of Amazon and Washington Post surpassed Warren Buffet as 2nd wealthiest man on earth, pushing on consumers pockets to become #1.

When I ordered my gaming computer, I was the REAR end of the guy's route, like 9pm deliveries from fedex, and I knew I only had a few days off, so a few days before the scheduled delivery, I flagged him down on my street, told him the day of delivery and that I REALLY wanted to be the first delivery. Slipped him $40 and wouldn't you know, he knocked at 0600 with my stuff :D

Yeah Serenity but you live in the middle of nowhere. They should fly over in a gooney and drop it on you. :bolt:

Wow...
Something has DEFINITELY changed at Amazon. Still having issues with all kinds of simple items not shipping to Alaska. Tried to buy a couple sheet metal tools on Amazon, seller is Northern Tool, Amazon says "We're sorry, this seller does not ship international." (somebody needs to inform Amazon of Alaska's statehood I guess) So I go directly to Northern Tools website and buy it and they ship it here for free.
Worse still, I did place an order on Amazon for some things on April 2, all items sold and fulfilled by Amazon themselves, and Prime eligible, and the order placed 6 days ago STILL hasn't shipped. In the past they always shipped within 1-2 days and had it to Alaska in 3-4 days.
Something is going on at Amazon and they have very quickly gone from an excellent service, to absolutely horrible. I'm trying to decide if it's worth renewing Prime membership just for the TV shows and movies, because all the shopping/shipping benefits seem to have disappeared.

Alaska became a state several months after I was born. :D

Well I just had an issue. I had canceled one of those one of those wireless thingamajigs you put in a TV to get Netflix and Amazon video a few weeks ago. Today I just happen to check and they were still sending it. I said I didnt want it but she said it was impossible to stop on her end so just refuse to accept on my end and UPS will send it back for full refund. OK not bad, perhaps I messed up when I first canceled it. Anyway now the wife decides she wants it upstairs so Im going to go ahead and accept it.
Next up was a weight belt I ordered which should have fit me cause they said it fit my waist size. Well it didnt fit and it costs $7 to return a $21 belt which doesnt seem to make sense. I'd rather give it away.
Well the girl at Amazon said to just keep the belt and they will refund me the full $21 for it anyway. I thought that was pretty righteous and didnt expect it with the way so many business's chase you away with their lousy service nowdays.

I've had a few problems where it's Prime, but fulfilled by a 3rd party. The warehouse shipments have been pretty reliable.
