Title: AHIII Pilot's Position
Post by: nrshida on March 30, 2017, 02:49:40 AM
One day, a large box arrived from England containing the old PC of an friend I've never actually met, only through AH. After a lot of fiddling around and acquiring peripherals I was able to get Windows and AHIII installed. Fantastic.

I must say the graphics look fantastic. Self shadowing, the clouds and the water are my favourite bits so far. Very well done HTC!  :salute

Flight model and gunnery seem so far the same to me - of course I'm only flying offline. One very weird thing though is in AHII the gunsight appeared about halfway up the screen and now it seems to be one third from the top. Is this correct or did I mess something up copying configuration files across? Furthermore in the Mosquito (for instance) the zoomed-in view seems to be coupled to the un-zoomed view. I thought they were separate in AHII?

I've tested this on two different monitors now. The older on was 4:3 but the new one is widescreen (1920 x 1080).

Any help / comments appreciated.

my opinion.  This is AH and so others will most certainly tell me I am an idiot but for what it is worth this is my take on things.

FOV - I used to use 106.  I am now trying 100 and having a good experience.

The gunsight - Have you tried resetting it using the Home key and then F10 to save?  FWIW I have my piper set very high.  I find it better for me with my style of flying / shooting.  I tend to set convergence at 375 to 425

Your zoom view maybe set so far out that it is the same as your regular view.

Try toggling it and use the bracket keys - (these are default) [ and ] - to increase and decrease the zoom rate.

Let us know if this salves the zoom issue

They changed the default FOV... you will need to change it top your liking...As Fess said...start from 100...and go back of forth dependent on what you were used to

Ah FOV? Thanks. Can't seem to find ot on the clipboard. I've looked in Options -> Graphic Detail and Options -> View Options. Is it perhaps in a config file?

Thank you found it. Can anyone remember what the AHII default was?

ignore what was, embrace what is !!!

Popular legacy says 106 equates to AH2.  90 is AH3 default.  I find that too tight, start at 100 and    <------->  from there.

Funny I'd settled on 105 through trial and error. Looks about right now. Only the gunsight is still about two-thirds up the monitor. Maybe the seating positions were revised during the update?

Thanks for all the help.

The pilot's position has been changed for better view to the instrument panel. IIRC Home is the button to the traditional centered view, or "look front" on the stick hat. If you need, you can save that using F10.

Ah, Bizman to the rescue. For those that also struggle the Home key indeed goes to the AHII perspective, then you can adjust from there.

Thank you old friend. May you infest the nightmares of a thosand mosquitos  :salute

It's so you can see your instruments better, I too didn't like this because it messed with my muscle memory for SA but I ended up getting used to it.

Sorry Fess you did indeed say that first. I was scanning quickly as I experimented on the AH PC. Just timing. Apologies. No slight intended  :salute

We have instruments?

How are you Junky, fighting the ACM fight?

Yea we have instruments that I don't use at all except for cornering spred at my merge speed :)

I'm good man, trying to but it's harder to do it these days with all the "good sticks" flying the picker/ganger style  :aok

Hey Nrsh, wasn't expecting to see you around. :)

Hello my brother. Just logged in so I could use the search feature and get some help setting up AHIII on my new (to me) PC. Who knows how long I'll be here. Wink wink, nudge nudge. Hope you are well.

Shocking. Winning now massively more important than having fun in an entertainment VE you say? Strange!  :) :salute
