Title: Update
Post by: Skuzzy on March 30, 2017, 03:52:27 PM
We released a batch of skins today, including all the updated ones.  We needed to clear the queue for a new skinadmin update.

There is a lot of changes in the underlying structure of the new skinadmin page.

The biggest changes, to you, will be in the update pages.  We have marked them "BETA" for the moment as it was completely re-written.  Anything submitted on the updates page will be wiped out once we go live with the new page.

1)  Given that, I would like to see people try and break the new pages.  Let me know what you did to break them so I can get them fixed.
2)  Please note the new look of the update page.  If you find it acceptable, then I will migrate that look to the new submission page as well.
3)  The core of the changes was needed so I can expand the skinadmin utility to encompass the orphans and other operations.
4)  You can update your skin information now.  Matter of fact, if you do only that it does not lock you out from providing other updates.  You may not want to do a lot of text updates as they will get wiped out when we are out of BETA.

Any questions or remarks, please plow forward in this thread with them.

Thank you.

Thanks Skuzzy.  I will try to break it this evening.

This is less than ideal for me. I was going to submit a couple of skins this evening expecting an update tomorrow.  :bhead

Well, go ahead and submit them.  If everything goes really well, I may not have to wipe out the submissions.  I just need everyone to understand that it is an option if things go wonky as I have preserved the old admin utility and databases which can be used to restore everything.

By the way, the skin information, which you will see in the update page for any given skin, contains information we need to edit out.

Back in the old days, when we sued to do this with email, the information file also contained information about the skinner (email address, name, and so on).  We will need to edit this out.

I intend to start going through the skins and take this information out, but it will take me some time.  If you happen to stumble into a skin you are updating, then edit that information.  I will do be able to save those changes, even if we restore the databases.

Love the graphic at the top.  Makes the page seem hip and cool instead of a bunch of nerds painting airplanes.    :rock  :rofl

Just updated a skin.   No issues found.

Would it be possible to remove the minimum size restriction on reference photos. Some of my reference material are irregular sizes and it would save a lot of work for me.

Submitted 2 new 109F's

Somehow I screwed up the name of one of them and did not notice until the second after I clicked "Submit"   :bhead

The skin named  "9./Jg" should be "9./Jg 26"

I can set the minimums lower.  These images are going to find themselves on the reference page of the skins site, so I would hope to see them a reasonable size.  Can you give me some idea of a decent set of minimums?

I can fix that.

Any thoughts on the new update page layout?  I am going to migrate that look to the new submission page, if it is preferred.

It is not exactly what I wanted, but it will do, for now.

I think a minimum of 150 pixels would work. That way profiles down to 512 pixels wide can be uploaded easily without resizing.

And thanks for fixing the skin name.

The page took some getting see to at first, but it is very clean looking.  I think it is good.  After a few uses it will be second nature.

I expected the update page to take a little getting used to, but it now shows more information than before, which was one of the goals.

I was hoping the verification page would be easier to digest.

Hard for me to be completely objective about it.  So before I roll that out into all the action type pages, I want to make sure it is solid.

I tested the update page a few times, including mis-naming a few files to see what happened and everything worked OK. The page layout seems to be a big improvement, separating the required and optional files is a good idea and the upload report is much clearer now.

Thank you for those efforts Greebo.  Appreciate it!

I'll give it until over the weekend, then based on the feedback, will start re-working the submission and verification pages the same look and feel.

Then it is off to the orphan code!

You've done well for my money.   It is more informative and gives us additional options we didn't have/know about before.   Good job.

I love the new update page.  It's pretty awesome.

Question...   Is there any way for the program to retain the upload information for files that are okay when an error is encountered?   As it stands when one file has a problem we have to go back through the entire list and resubmit everything a second (or in my case, a third) time.   Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but a thought.

I think the new format is really nice.   Well done.   :salute

I looked into preserving the data, but it had unintended security related consequences.

No problem.  Thanks for the reply.
