Aces High Radio Text and Voice Control Bar
when you text in this bar and hit enter the bar disappears, I was wondering if there's a way to keep it from disappearing when you send you text?  I know hitting the ? mark button brings it back, just being lazy I guess, I forgot some people leave it down after transmitting until they need to transmit again
so forget I asked---shift/ctrl/alt buttons don't do anything, separate or togeather.. have played to long to fall for the old ALT/F4 trick

/ open radio with radio 1 selected (you are calling it a ? but with out the shift key it's a slash)
Shift / opens the radio with radio 2 selected.
Ctrl / opens the radio with radio 3 selected .
Alt / opens the radio with radio 4 selected.

Hence you are all ways 1 key stroke combination from any transmission, and hence why I asked if you knew about them because I fail to see the usefulness of keeping the radio open for 1 extra key press.
Vs an extra key press or button click to close it. Because when it's open no flight keys will function.

I believe I understand what Lunatics talking about.

I keep my radio open always so I can see who's on range and secondary to know who's in channel.

I do it by hitting the "/" and then clicking the "away" box twice.  However if you do this, then anytime you text, the radio bar and corresponding player info goes away and you go through the process over again.

Basically, I'd like to have an option to see who's on channel/range all the time. Whether the radio bar is visible or not in that option, doesn't matter to me personally.

This request makes sense to me. If I implement it I  would do it with a check box that stays open in the room box.

I'd like the room chat channel to also transmit to people who are close by, not just those who took off from the same field. Or do i have a poor understanding of the way the purple channel works?

The latter

I don't know how wide range is but it operates as the name suggests

Skuzzy can you confirm that? I've heard mixed things regarding the range/room chat function

Range operates just outside of icon range. Maybe 8K or so.

There is no range text channel. It's called 'Room' and it's opereating entirely independent from the voice range channel.

Inflight, 'Room' text chat can be read by anyone who spawned/took off from the same base as you, regardless of range. Someone right next to you who happened to lift off from a different base will never see your 'room' text.

For both voice and text? Do people have to have range tuned in To receive?

I'm not sure if I understand this question.

There is 'range' voice, which is always on (not a channel which you can tune to or detune from), and a 'room' text channel, which you can choose to tune to or not.
Both are completely unrelated to each other, as explained above.

The problem is that they aren't absolutely totally unrelated. They share the same color.

Confuses people into thinking their operation is somewhat related, too.

Maybe the easy solution isn't to change the behavior, but just the color.

Well, functionally they are, but you have a very good point there  :old:

So perhaps the "room" text channel should bleed over to people in close "range" also. What do y'all think?

I think think would increase the confusion.

I think th current iteration is more confusing as there is less use for a room chat than a range chat. When in the tower the range chat should work fine for people in the tower and doing base defense

The most obvious channel would be field-numbered channels. This would work both for the offence as well as defence. Attack field X tune field X. Defend field X, tune field X too.

Agree..  who actually uses the room chat while in the tower? Maybe if you're planning a mission?
