That's actually not a bad $ considering what I see other WW2 planes going for - there are hundreds of P51s, and while there aren't piles of Spits and other fighters, there are certainly tons more than there are 109s. I don't even think there is 10 restored flying 109s, is there? Or even half that? I see P51s/etc going for 1/2 that or more frequently, which is why I think the $ is pretty reasonable.
Such a shame so few have survived, hard to believe there was 35,000+ or whatever of them built in such a short time span, yet fewer than your digits left in flying-ish condition. 109s just look lethal, the SPits and Mustang look beautiful to me, but the 109s look like an angry animal just looking to bite something.
I hope somebody with $ and the ability to keep this example up gets it. Great pictures, I mean look at those, everything looks like it came out of the detail shop, pristine.
The 2 seat G12 on the same sight would be a dream IMO - able to take other pilots and 109 enthusiasts for hops, it looks to be in great shape as well. There is a video of a test flight in the for sale pictures, and there is a camera mounted in the rear seat - it looks like it has really good visibility from the rear seat position, far better than I expected. Jo, you posted in another thread a few months back if there was any 2 seat 109s around so you could get your dream ride - there's your chance...

That's what happens when you lose a total war. Also the reason most flying 109s are Spanish built (i.e. did not take part in the war) or restored from shot down wrecks. Before you lose a war you throw everything you have at the enemy. Not much left after that. The victors on the other hand have lots of surplus.

Not entirely accurate. Remember that the Allies were constantly overrunning German positions and hundreds, if not thousands, of planes were captured. Very few were taken by the Allies for testing and the rest were scrapped by them.

To add to this, i believe the world was over the whole war and just wanted to move forward from it so many of the machines of that era were destroyed and scrapped.

Yes I forgot to mention that when you lose a war like that your enemy will also break all the toys you have left.

Agreed. The 109 looks just mean-machine/terminator like and the P-51 looks fluid.
The 109 is just mean looking like the Undertaker
Like this...

While the P-51 is wearing a purdy red dress and a deep red lipstick it doesn't want to smudge. But it's a bloody cyborg underneath.

Agree!
Spits and P51s are like a nice 308 with a wood stock. 109's are like an AR10. :)

Geeze Arlo. That was only yesterday on the Franklin. Bear did tell you not to use your brakes when landing on the CV no?
Of course, if you come in toooo fast and trap...this happens...

Or if you forget to ensure you're all 'two green' for landing gear...

Both those pilots look .... forked. ;)

Conversely, if you don't want a historic Bf-109 for $4M, you could have a Mig-29UB for around the same price...

whats the cost on maintenance and licsensing to own and operate that!? 4.5m seems very cheap.
