Title: torps in the water.. let us shoot em...KABOOM
Post by: JimmyC on April 12, 2017, 10:44:50 PM
if torps are running it would be good to try and blow em up before they hit the ship..
tried but it did not work.would be fun to have them explode if you shot at them..

Cool idea, however with how useless torps are already, that would render them obsolete altogether IMO.

Not so much useless as difficult to use without getting blown up and having to wait for an absence of feed back to tell you you missed. What we really need is Torpedo Cam.

Let us shoot torps.  Also bombs should be shootable.  Also +1 for torpedo cam, and by extension, troop cam.

Wiley.

I've never been able to get a torpedo bomber anywhere near to a cv group without getting 5 inches to death.

I have sunk well over a 100 ships and always with torps. That said, Ive only had the great pleasure of watching the torp hit the ship a dozen or so times in over 10 yrs lol

I used to sink up to 60 cv per tour with torps and landed about 85% of the missions.

You can sink them without them flashing.

In AH3, you can sink two cv and two cruisers in one PT boat mission.

I often don't call out enemy CV when I find them and have a PT boat in good position for a run.

If you're in front of the enemy cv or within 30 degrees of head on, your torps that run for 4 minutes can get to the fleet with the combined speeds building to about a 70mph closure rate.

So you can launch before the cv flashes, turn immediately around and drive straight away to maintain distance.

I usually drop one for the cruiser and 3 for the cv.

If you want to try for 2 cv and 2 cruisers, you have to get within 40mm gun or rocket distance which flashes the cv.

The biggest obstacle to success in using PT boats on enemy cv groups is your own countrymen since they will cause the cv to turn making your torp runs useless as they spend themselves flaccidly against the hull on 13 one way missions just to light it.
