Post by: Vraciu on April 20, 2017, 10:48:33 PM
Any thoughts or suggestions on how to do oil stains?

Lucky for you that's exactly what I'm working on with my 110C.

I'll make a tutorial tomorrow for you. It's a multilayer process.

In GIMP when I skinned for Warbirds, I would use a dark black/brown, more on the black side. Then use the "Wind" distortion feature and drag it the direction of airflow. Depending on the look you are going for, you could smudge it the same direction or use 1 pixel Gaussian blur, and bring the opacity down. It worked pretty good on my G-2

There is some staining around the back of the cowling. It is more noticeable underneath but unfortunately I didn't take closeups before I s*%t- canned Warbirds. Maybe when I get home I can show you what I looks like on the skin. Keep in mind this is a different engine and light source.

That's funny, I'm working on that same scheme for our G-2. Your's looks pretty good too.

Oil is more of a very dark green/brown than a black. Smoke should lean more to the black side.

Any update on that tutorial, D?

This is all I need to do for that Red Nose P-51D and then it's finished.

The tutorial is much harder than I thought it would be. I never realized before how much I winged it. Now I'm trying to deconstruct what a do so I can piece together a technique.
