Title: Thursday Night Tanks Fights......The Radar Question
Post by: Mano on April 21, 2017, 07:09:02 PM
How do you guys feel about turning off the radar in the AvA Tank Fights?
We are in a small arena that only uses one or two bases per side.
No way to ambush if the RADAR is going to Point to So and So over there..... :D :D :D

In favor or against.
Let's hear it.

I am in favor of turning off radar.

 :salute

I know with the current Dar settings we use a 30 sec delay but I think the hunt would be more fun w/o knowing where we are hiding.

Just my 2 Cents

I would prefer radar off because it is totally impossible to flank anybody because they immediately (or 30 seconds later) know you are on their flank and can turn to place their frontal armor towards you.  That means you are always going up against frontal armor which doesn't work too well for Allied tanks against Axis ones.

HOWEVER, many of us remember what happened in tank night back before the radar was turned on.  With terrains based on European or Pacific tilesets there were so many trees you basically couldn't find anybody.  You could be a few hundred feet from an enemy tank and not know it.  Many people rightly complained that driving around blindly until they blew up from an unseen enemy was a less than ideal source of entertainment.  True, that is the way it is in the MA, but usual game play in the MA involves a spatially confined objective of some kind and that makes finding enemy tanks easier, i.e. they are usually on their way to, or at, the objective.  In AvA tank night there often is no objective to concentrate the action, just tank vs tank battles.  On the other hand, the base take, or bridge defense/attack nights do have objectives that concentrate the action and make enemy tanks easier to find even without the radar.

I wish we still had the Tank Terrain USRanger Made it was a desertish type tile set and it worked pretty good with a huge mound with bridges and all that we could attack or defend and also had the V2 Rockets sites

Keep in mind that we have many fun setups for TNTn and it continues to be an evolving event.

Some nights, like last Thursday, feel like a hamster wheel and elicit calls for changes. I don't think it was a bad setup for what it was, a simple slugfest. IMO that type of setup becomes boring after the first 45 minutes, even with the addition of more rides at the hour mark.
A legitimate argument has suggested that the problem was due to not using all the available bases on the Knit(?) side, putting it behind the eight ball for a large part of the evening.

I submit that removing radar would not make a significant difference in the setup without the addition of a base capture option. I'd like to see if there is agreement on that position for this particular terrain?

Why would there be radar?

Why would there be radar?
Because in the first few runnings, people were stumbling around looking for each other and often passing within a few hundred feet without seeing each other.

The Storch was often enabled in previous runnings depending on the setup but it's been awhile. Without radar, it might be enabled again?

Agree with Easy. Turn off the radar and enable the Storch, kinda like real world, eh?

I have been exploring the Thursday night fun for the past 2 weeks and it never occurred to me to use radar. Who would've thunk. I just like the idea of being able to blow tanks up on occasion while getting blowed up every time I turn around.

Whatever ya'll decide to do, DON'T take the fun out of it . . .

Or else!!!!!

LOL

I was talking about the one terrain with no vehicle spawns. I haven't checked to see if you can launch a Storch at the bases.

been really mean to me lately.   :furious :furious

BTW, Radar is that guy that used to know everything that was gonna happen before it happened
on M.A.S.H.  :D

I never cared for the radar. It took out the fun of finding the enemy. Now it is like " oh look ! He right there!! "
