I'm amazed at being able to fly all of these wonderful aircraft. Question, Is it too hard to program mirrors and is that why you don't see them in game? just wondering.
-
Used to turn them off in racing games because of the frame rate decreasing.
-
I wonder how effective mirrors were. I would expect vibration to make them nearly useless.

Considering how everyone had at least one if not two, they must have worked somewhat :)

In my experience? Not very...
Don't get me wrong, they help for making sure your wingman is in position, but by the time you can see someone on your six, you're likely already shot down.

From what I learned in the history channel "dogfights" once implemented it saved their 6 a few times. Just the visual of moment was enough. I found it interesting. The hightech team does amazing things so I thought I'd ask.

I mostly just use mine for selfies lol. I may be doing something wrong...

yes we need them to check our hair mid fight.

How I position my mirrors:

Worth noting: I cannot see directly behind me. They're perfect for looking down my 30 degree bearing line, but that's it. It was the same in the T-6 IIRC

I wonder how many mirrors the JSF needs :)

None, they use Toyota's 360 view camera and a headsup display!....... :devil
:salute

If your plane has slats, you want the mirrors on them.
-
In the 51 u can pull an exorsist type head spin ....so they prolly don't make a lot of sense. The hellcat could u a couple.
-
I feel like they might be good for checking for major damage in the tail in an aircraft that you might have an otherwise hard time seeing.

I asked couple time they said no.

The Hellcat needs a periscope, a mirror will not do.
Mirrors are good for fixing your lipstick and parking in reverse.
In the mosquito I do not need mirrors - my navigator and I fix each others lipstick. We also have pajamas parties and argue on who is the cutest member of One Direction. :rock

We still have them for a reason! (and NO, its not so we can look upon our own glorious visages--though that is a plus!!!)
Used them quite effectively in both F4s and F-15s .. though nothing compares with getting turned around and looking at them, there are times when it just isn't practical.

Mossie pilot's camouflage themselves believing green lipstick makes them invisible, and yet all red cons head their direction thinking there is a pajama party nearby.

You flew both the F-4 and F-15. Awesomeness. Friend of mine here in Alaska did that as well. Phantom is just phantastic, Eagle is cool as well (for a jet).
As for the mirrors, I was wondering how well they worked on a piston engine airplane because of the vibration, turbine shouldn't be shaking that hard.
