This middle-aged man arrived at a private airport and showed off his new plane. He stated he had never flown a plane in his life and was planning on taking his first lesson soon. He then let everyone know the airport manager said it would be alright for him to taxi it down to the runway. However, instead, he ended up firing the plane up and took off instead. He hit the throttle and took off barely missing the trees. Eventually, he came down in a crash landing bending his landing gear and damaging the nose-wheel of his plane.

That's not a plane. It's a kite with lawnmower parts.

What a maniac.
Well, I guess it seemed like a good idea to him at the time. :uhoh

Oh wow! :x

with over 20 years of flight sim experience and dozens of rides in jetliners, i can say i am a better pilot than him. :old:

Often taking off is too easy with light planes like his.
He was terrified of dieing and you could see it every time he attempted to bring the plane down. The ground coming up at him terrified him and he would suddenly pull up in fear. He got pretty slow at a few points and I thought we would see him wing stall and auger in.
-
It looked like the plane was controlled only by rudder, elevator, and engine. Yes, I thought he was stalled several times too.

The whole time I was watching that I was thinking he was actually a 1337 pilot and it was some sort of stunt right up until he put it down and almost bought the farm. Brings back memories of that old man who bought a Heli and tried to fly it with no training whatsoever. Honestly not sure which one of them is a better pilot though. Heli guy's first flight went a whole lot worse than the ultralight, but in his defense his craft was infinitely more complex and I think he managed to get it off the ground at least before wadding it up.

I think it was a day for this dude....
I'd rather be down here wishing I was up there - than up there wishing I was down there.... - Pilot mantra. Crappy place to be. In waaay over his head.
And most of would agree - he's not a Aces High Pilot :D

This guy would make an excellent Storch pilot in AH. The way he came in over the trees, not appearing till the last second. Zigging and zagging left and right, up and down, dodging tank pintle MG fire.
Maybe he IS an Aces High pilot...

Like Dad used to say, the lord looks out for the stupid. Glad nothing horrible happened.
