Title: kills and assists
Post by: Bandyt on April 30, 2017, 10:30:08 AM
Does the person who destroys the aircraft, tank etc. get the kill ? or is it the person who hits it first gets the kill and the person who actually does the shoot down get an assist?

It is the person who does the "critical" damage that gets the kill.

You might hit him with 500 rounds and knock a few pieces off, but another guy comes in a puts a couple rounds in the pilot and he gets the kill.

The one who applied most damage prior to the breakage of any 'critical' part does get the kill credit. Doing the critical damage itself does not matter. It just stops any further damage counting towards kill crediting.
For example one fighter pilot rakes a bomber all over with his .50 cals, but doesn't actually break anything. Then another one comes in and does a last tiny bit of damage to remove a wing.
The former player will get the kill.

Any tips on how to steal a kill?  It's so hard to hit a NiKI missing 1/2 a wing in a death spiral.

That tactic was rendered obsolete many years ago with the 'new' system explained above  :old:

I remember a guy who would "call off" other pilots on a target so he could drop in and get his shot. His rationale is that he had the angle or the energy.

Another factor to take into account is whether the pilot who did the critical damage is still alive.
