Title: Who all here play's the Lottery ?
Post by: Flench on May 09, 2017, 11:23:06 AM
I was playing the Power Ball for a while and all I havve ever hit was $100 bucks . I know a few of my friends have started playinng the scratch off's and have done real well . Had one friends father hit for $150K .. I play in TN lottery and form looking at there web site the only scratch off's with any or better odd's are the Jumbo Bucks one .. Been playing those dor two weeks now and all I have hit is a free ticket , err. Form watching some Youtube video's they say it's best to buy them 10 at a time that I have not been doing . I get like five every weekend . So what  do you guys think of playing the lottery or the scratch offs ????? Anyone ever had any luck here in our group ?

I've bought two or three for myself over the years, and when my dad was still in Hawaii, he would have me buy them for him. Consistently won $2 or $3, but never more.

After a run of REALLY bad luck with broken jets, I was told I should go buy a lottery ticket because my luck MUST be turning... wouldn't you know, the gas station that sells them in town was closed that day lol.

I was standing in line behind a guy who bought a scratch-off.  I asked him (while he was scratching it) how much he had won on those, and he said, "Occasionally, I get some......oh crap! oh crAP, oh CRAP, OH CRAP!!!!!".

As he was shoving the ticket under the nose of the cashier yelling "Oh crap", over and over again.  She looked at it and told him where he had to go to collect it.

After he walked out (still shouting "oh crap"), she turned to me and said, there goes "1.5 Million".  On a $20 scratch off.

That is the closest I have come to winning the lottery.

Just for the record, were you planning on buying a ticket then also.  In other words if he had not bought it would it have been yours?

Had not planned on buying that ticket.  I play a little "All of Nothing" and usually that is good for $10 to $50 at a time.

I once didn’t win $250,000.00 years ago on Fantasy 5.  My wife and I played the same numbers every week.  Our dog died and we didn’t go out to buy a ticket that week. Numbers came in.  One more tragedy that week and I could have written a country song.

I had a Neighbour 30 years ago who won $3,000,000.00 in the NY Lottto.  I think it was about $80,000.00 a year for 20 years.

My wife's aunt and uncle have won the lottery not once but twice! First win was some secondary prize of around 150K,then about a year later, maybe longer they hit a jackpot of 3+ mil!

I rarely play myself,I will buy a ticket when the prize climbs to over 20 mil. Personally I think it's just another form of taxation, but you have to have a ticket if you want to win..... :devil

In Canada they dont tax the prize but you have to pay taxes on the interest earned!

    :salute

Never won anything of note, just free tickets or $10s. Know 3 people that have won big: friend I grew up with won the 649 years ago as did a neighbour plus a guy I worked with at one time.

I like to play a Crossword ticket once in a while, but it's mostly a just for fun thing.  They take a while to play and always make it so your ticket looks like it could be a winner right up until you scratch to reveal the final letter and get boned by a Q or V.  You can spot the true degenerate gamblers by the way they play.  They'll but 10 or 20 tickets at once and rather than play the game they just scratch the side off because they know the codes for winners vs. losers.

As a kid I would look in the tops of trash cans and check the old scratch off tickets to see if anyone accidentally threw away a winner. You would be surprised how many I found that someone tossed out a winning ticket. Most I found at once was a $50 one.

Do you think is still ok to gamble  on bitcoin madness at this price 2200$?  Will it end as new world currency or ponzzi scheme?  It doubled its value this month; today  was trading @ 2800$ in Asia , while gold still sitting at 1200$/ounce.

"If you bought $100 of bitcoin 7 years ago, you'd be sitting on $75 million now"

Maybe they are using it for a controlled crash,  switch to one global currency, devaluate the $ and gold, after China and Russia hoarded all the gold from markets? :)
I don't have any bitcoin,  just watching the buzz, maybe I'll buy a couple , can't afford more. It's up +200$ / + 9.15%  since yesterday ,from approx. 2200 to 2420$. https://www.worldcoinindex.com/coin/bitcoin
I'm sceptic also, but read in news today ,it could go up to 10k$ in a month, or  500k$ in few years.

   Would be interesting to know who's behind it;
I searched the wiki, interesting timming, was launched in 2009, after the financial crisis , ( alternative for financial crash ?! )the founder ,Satoshi Nakamoto seems to be just a fictional caracter and owns 20% of every coin;  you don't just open 800 ATMs  in every shopping mall across America and 100s more around the world , competting with national currencies without  approval from higher
 authorities.

I don't play regularly, but the guys in the kitchen regularly have a pool for anything 30mil and up. I occasionally get in on some of the really big pots.

I worked at the Mississippi casinos for around 10 year's and the owner come in one day and told me look at it this way every person that comes through those doors is an automite loser of $55 dollars .So he makes 55 bucks on every person that comes in the door in the long run .
