There several places like on the clipboard that use text with a black background. Please consider for better clarity a different background color.
-
I am confused. A black background offers the highest contrast possible to any non-black color text being shown.

That could be the problem. The contrast is too high. Regular AH it is a bit blurry, VR it is much worse. Note the opening VR safety warning is crystal clear.

I am still confused. Any background color, other than black risks it being illegible to anyone who may have a problem with seeing colors. For instance, if the text is green and the background is yellow, I would not be able to see the text at all.
Black is the only color which allows all text to be visible, regardless of any ability to see color the player may have.
By the way, if you force anistropic filtering on, it will blur the text in the game. If you force anti-aliasing on, it could blur text in the game.

Did not know that. Thanks!

The oculus safety warning is very clear. It is not a black background. Not trying to argue with you Skuzzy. You are the expert. Just hoping to improve the VR experience.

I was waayyyy confused until he clarified this is a VR issue.

Not just VR but it is much worse in VR. The white on black is not very sharp and if you include the blurry gauges in the cockpit.

Because I have heard you complain about blurry text for a very long time and never got anywhere asking about it. I thought I might post a couple of images to see if this is what you are calling blurry.
One is of the tower, and the other is in the cockpit of a plane (B24). Does the text in these images reflect what you are calling "blurry"?
I have left them the size there were taken so as not to alter the way they appear in the game.

What FOV setting for these pictures?

Default. 90.
If you think it makes a difference, then what FOV would you like me to shoot them at?
-
I don't see blurriness in either image ... I do see pixilation

You mean aliasing? Yes, because I have disabled anti-aliasing. It is a trade-off. If you want clear text and guage text, then you have to do without anti-aliasing as it WILL blur the edges of any 3D texture and there is nothing anyone can do about it. It is the nature of anti-aliasing.

I just wanted to make sure we were comparing the same view. The answer is no, my view of the tower and B24 are not that sharp in regular AH and of course VR is much worse.

For us non-geeks, would you advise having anti-aliasing on or off (For best overall game play)?

Is simply a matter of preference.

With anti-aliasing on 3d objects look a bit soft and blurry.
With anti-aliasing off 3d objects look sharper, but with jagged edges (pixilation)
Like the man said, your choice.

Then that would be due to your settings or something external to the game. Are you forcing anti-aliasing? That is the one parameter which WILL blur the edges of text and there is nothing we can do about it.

Thank you Fugi!

This blurring is the same on AMD card then switched to nvidia and same thing. No, not forcing AA same as in AH2. I did try forcing AA in VR but reset it back to application controlled. I have tried AA on and off in game settings.
For your screen shoots did you use DX9?
-
DX11.
Here are two more screenshots. The game settings are all at default, as are the video driver settings. This is an AMD 7950 video card. Those first two I posted had all the graphic options disabled as my work computer is not fast enough to run the game with all the options enabled.
So this is the other end of the spectrum.
Are you sure you are running the game at the native resolution of the monitor? You do this, even when you are using a VR headset. Does your screenshots show what you are talking about?

Skuzzy when time permits would you post a P-38J cockpit view?
-
Here is the P38J. How about you posting some (ALT-S in the game) screenshots of what you are seeing.
I panned down (Page Down) from the default head position so you can see more of the gauge panel.

I will. Tied up the next couple of days. Maybe Thursday.
-
Before you do, make sure your video driver settings are at default and then make sure the games anti-alias is disabled (Options->Graphic Detail).
