Title: Setup for New Players - Barrier to Entry
Post by: Vraciu on May 17, 2017, 01:45:48 AM
We really need some way to improve/streamline getting new players in here.   Spent all night getting someone in the game to where they could finally play.   He had been trying offline for five days and couldn't get the throttle to work, etc.

Maybe a step by step manual that explains things.    Like how to communicate.   Stick settings.   Views.

The ADD crowd wants instant gratification.   If we can't keep them interested long enough to get them airborne we have no prayer of retention.   :salute

Is this ONLY on the site or can it be accessed in-game?

Some of this needs to be in a help tab or something.

Almost everything in-game has some type of help menu attached to it. Look for the small question marks.

Will do.   I haven't needed to since I've been here so long.   This guy couldn't find what he needed and expressed frustration.   Once I got him flying he was having a blast though.

He's still in the Melee playing.  Thirty-nine sorties, no kills, 8 bails, 22 deaths, 5 captured, 1 ditch, 1 landing, hit percentage: 0.05%.  He loves it.   That's the can-do spirit right there.

:rofl  :aok

V,

If you don't mind, Plz PM me the new player's Callsign and We will get our 'Trainers hooks' into him/her (Our pass mine off to him/her and have them PM me).

Like everyone, your Training Corps have busy lives and limited game time available however, will still do everything we can to get beginners up to speed  :joystick: ... { or help veterans get rid of bad habits } :old:.  We can't help if they don't seek it out, or we don't happen to see the request for assistance.

Thanks for stepping in!

I agree removing entry hurdles is a good thing, and something we could improve on.

With the new help system we can play help videos right on the clip board.

That is cool!

Can we add performance charts (Climb/Speed) on the clipboard?

Rodent, let me help you out, try this:

Dear Hitech,

I love your game sir.  May we please have performance charts on the clipboard.
Enclosed you will find a case of 24 year old scotch.

Thank you,

Rodent
(your humble servant)

Performance charts are available in the hanger in game and you can put any charts you copy on the clipboard, same as custom maps.

In 'another game', you could page a trainer with a button when online in-game. Not a bad idea if trainers are there .

True....OR, there could be a wee little tab that we click on the Knee board and the charts for our plane would pop up (Similar to E6B)  ... of the thousands of sorties that I've flown in war machines (and civilian aircraft), I can not remember a single one where performance chats weren't readily at available (Usually in my lower left flight suit pocket!).

what is the point.  performance charts are only useful if you know your speed and the other fighter's speed.  if you are in the middle of combat are you going to stop and look at the charts or keep your hand on the stick.

Well, if they were only useful for what you say there might not be much use in having them ... but they have all sorts of other uses, and some of those are useful while airborne.

I have nailed many a faster plane in a slower plane.  performance charts didnt help me, speed did.

Having the charts are useful, just because you don't find a need for them doesn't mean others don't as well.
