I guess it has 2 video cards in it...

According to Nvidia, the 940MX comes both as DDR3 and GDDR5 versions. The former was good enough a decade or more ago, so choose GDDR5.
In any case, 940 is at the low end of the 900 series. Better than the Intel chip, but not fast. You'd have to disable quite a lot of eye candy for playable frame rates.
For a two video card laptop, remember to choose the better one for games and check the setting every once in a while, it may change without a notice.

How to do what? If you mean switching from Intel to Nvidia, it's in the Nvidia control panel. It's still in the Windows Control Panel and most likely also accessible by right clicking an empty spot on the Desktop.
If you mean how to determine the memory type of the Nvidia video, before buying you may have to rely on the manufacturer's information. However, if you are allowed to run a standalone program from your memory stick at a shop, CPUID (zip version) tells the type: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html (http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html)
