Yeah I rejoined. $9.99 a month special if you join in May and they gave me my old rank back.

Modern FPS's just move to fast for me.

No harm no foul there Dubious. But is it ethical? ...kinda low on that scale.  Kinda like talking about the awesomeness of War Blunder and World of Pranks / Slips.

I played ww2 online way back when - the flight model is nowhere near as nice as the one here.

I played WW2OL when it was beta and then after it's crapstastic launch for about a year.  I remember being able to fly down the road in a Ju87 and just knock tanks and trucks off the road with my landing gear and the flight models of that game.  The FM for the Bf 110 was a joke at launch, you were literally able to take off the plane like an airplane and every plane seem to have endless energy because of the lack of drag.

It was funny to see them a few years ago trying to tap in to the China market only to see that fail miserably.  Frankly, I am very surprised the Cornered Rats have been able to keep this game afloat, should have swirled down the toilet years ago.

I bought the boxed version the day it came out.

Never will I make that mistake again.

I do like the idea, I wish something on that scale could be done here, even with just aircraft and tanks.

The game is being worked on mostly by volunteers now, they've managed to do more with the game in the last while than the Rats did in the last few years they were around.

I too was there on go live.  Very laggy.  I played for a couple of years but the game demands more time than I typically get now.

EDIT: meant the Bf 110 at launch was able to take like a helicopter.

I think I played until around early 2007, the worst thing CRS did was give players the ability to boss other players around.  All the unlikable jerks hopped into High Command slots and started crapping all over the fun squads that they were never allowed into.

That's how I remember it anyway, been awhile.

They are two completely different types of games. Believe me AH3 isnt going to lose a single customer to WW2OL, Ive spoken about WW2OL many times here on the forum.

AH has 10 times the available aircraft, much better graphics, is easier to learn, better audio. The two just dont have much in common.

There is one thing WW2OL has and that is the ability to recreate realistic WW2 combined arms battles in a real map of Europe. As a flight game, or even a tank game, it cant compare with AH3. Tho I still have fun playing WW2OL. Both are about the last ones standing in the WW2 MMO's, at one time they shared players who played both. But now? They arent in competition.

When I quit it years ago they didnt even have a coder. Now? They have been green lit and are currently writing the Steam integration so things may change there and yes its a very tight nit community that has stayed loyal to the game. Like this one.

Yep. Worst thing for the game was when you needed an AO to take a town. No more sneaking anything which took the fun out

Wow are they still in business? I played there for a year or so with 3rd Panzer.... great bunch of players. Pity about the devs.

I remember WW2OL from years ago.

I liked it, but fell out of playing it as my gaming availability reduced to allowing me one main online hobby.

Aces High is gigantically better for air combat, and that is my main desire, so I'm only here now.

Most of my experiences in this game were horrible....

But, there was one day when a buddy of mine and I working together with a few other guys managed to stop a huge tank assault.  That was one of the most fun online experiences I have had.

It lasted for about an hour.

Every other second was an exercise in frustration.

In its day it was the most realistic Historical WW2 game creation MMO.
We got to the point where we had forward observers calling in targets for our aircraft. We had massed infantry/armor attacks with air defense and even airplanes acting as spotters. I can remember attacks where we'd drop 100 para's onto a town and spend all night fighting for it.

This was a long time ago. Back then I'd live on Red Bulls and rotate from BFBC2 to Aces High to WW2OL. It was digital heaven, all bases were covered. As a pure flight game AH was always my favorite, both AH and WW2OL move at a pace I like. These FPS's now move so fast theres no time for strategy, if someone isn't sticking a shiv in your back while your trying to look at the map then its some code cheat blowing your head off from 1,000 yrds away. I bought BF1 but its turning out to be a dog and as a flight game these FPS's really blow.

The IL2 series has a nice look to it but every time I open it it has a very small online componant and I have no interest playing offline in any game against AI. Aces High has always been cool since you need to actually know how to use the strengths of your airframe vs the strengths and weakness's of other airframe's and since there are so many possible match ups you never got bored. Its not the same now either because one see's only a very small % of the modeled airframe's actually used. LOL I remember when the i16 and the Brewster came out and we all spent weeks just battling those two up in the cold air over Finland. Good times.

yeah DubiousKB I hear you, check further down you will see 24-26 pages on wot and armoured warfare- I think it's wrong to be advertising other games ( games competing against AH3 mind you) here on HTC bulletin boards, I think it' wrong and not right.
but apparently HiTech does not.

I applaud HT and their group for being as nonchalant as they are.

I know myself, if I think something shares even a remote market with AH, I won't talk about it here, but that's made easier by the fact that there ISN'T anything that shares a market with AH which is even CLOSE to as good lol

Yep, I liked WW2OL but for very different reasons than AH -- very different game.

I'm glad it's out there, and if I had more time for gaming, I'd probably spend some time over there.

But when I have time for only one game -- it's AH no contest.  :aok

Why exactly do you think its wrong? Do you have a financial stake in either game?

It's rather bad form for someone to come in and advertise for a game on another developer's message boards.  HiTech is one of the very few developers that I've seen that allow it.  Do you really think that Wargaming.net and Gaijin would allow you to advertise Aces High on their message boards?

Well this is hardly "advertising" but I didnt even last a month on it. Same graphics, game mechanics, "elite" members. Honestly I wouldn't even play it for free. Getting greenlit does you know good if the game is old and tired, and even worse, difficult to learn. Now AF3 is none of those three so i think it has a much better chance of getting players from being greenlit.

It took WW2OL years to get greenlit because it had so few members left. AH3 should happen much faster and there should be a better result.

No, this pretty much meets the definition of advertising.

Advertising: the act or practice of calling public attention to one's product, service, need, etc.

Sorry if proving you wrong upsets you.

Also, in no fashion did I "act like the owner", I just merely pointed out a fact about how other studios don't allow advertisements for another studio's game on the forums.  For example, if the OP had posted his advertisement for WW2OL on the forums for the studio I work for, the OP would be immediately banned from the forums and the post deleted.

I always find it amusing when someone comes to our site and acts like they know exactly how to simulate flight in software and assumes their way is the best way without knowing a damn thing about how we do it.

We have no issue with someone talking about a game.  We do have a problem when someone comes to our board and starts talking about how that game is better than ours, in any aspect.

It is simply bad form to do so.

By the way, physics based flight simulation does not mean it is always right.  A shining example of it is how much better our physics based flight is than the game being talked about here. Yes, you opened yourself up for that.
