This is the last of my Mustangs to be overhauled. I will obviously work on improvements if I find ways to do it down the line.

Just noticed the silver exhaust shroud in the first and third pictures of the new version is not showing. I will leave them up any way.

Dang it I just lost a long response. Dunno what key I it but I lost it all. Sorry for the brevity here; gonna edit down what I remember of what I had:
In it I said I think your power & spec values look right on when comparing the sun glare on the cowl to the glare on the rear fuselage. SO what are the values you used between the areas?
I said also I thought it would benefit from the paint chipping treatment you gave Horse's Itch, and that I couldn't find at photos of the real subject - there is a Wee Willie from the 357th that dominates the search results...
Nice skin; should be easy to spot in the MA with that bright yellow tail...

Thanks Oboe, FTJR, and Greebo. I will post some screenshots of my spec maps in a day or two. I actually have to go to work for a change tomorrow. Lol
I found a couple of mistakes I need to correct but nothing massive thankfully.

You may recall Tmetal asked if someone would do this skin because it was flown by his cousin in WWII. He has probably left the game now which is too bad. I finally made it look right after years of trying. :salute

BTW, Oboe, Skuzzy modified my Horse's Itch spec maps for me in that other thread. You can use those as an idea for painted surfaces.
Fencer uploaded his files for metal. Devil did as well. (Greebo sent me his offline.). Take a look at those if you don't want to wait on me. I will try to get them up before I hit the sack, but no promises.

Thanks for posting the maps. I'll compare the values to the the average values of what I'm using. The are still some specular effects I'd like to develop more but it might be a few days before I can get back to working on it...

You're welcome. You can modify the brightness level for the anti-glare panel layer by a few percentage points either way to get the effect you want.

Maybe I should copy the anti-glare panel speculation to the yellow tail. Might look better.

Dull aluminum. When you look at the photos it almost looks painted.
I am guessing you see something you don't like. What would you change?

the _p on the aluminum should the same or slightly more then you have the yellow tail.

Made some changes. Still not sure I am doing it the way you want.
I adjusted the _e by making the gray lighter (which may be exactly the opposite of what you wanted). I changed the _p to be closer to the tail's.
The skin looks it MIGHT MIGHT MIGHT be a darker shade of gray to me now though when not in light due to the adjustment I made to the _E map (I made the shade of gray lighter on the metal).

On the P-map, did you adjust the metal areas with a lighter or darker value? It looks like a lighter value since the finish at some angles the fuselage looks glossier and less like metal.

Lighter to more closely match the tail as Hitech suggested. I assumed he was referring to the spec maps.
But maybe he meant darker, which is what I wanted to do, to widen the beam on the metal. Lighter on the spec does that gel coating thing...
In Hitech's defense he did cause me to bump up the metal sections on the S map. That was needed.

The fuselage in the original P-map is not black enough.

Looking much better, as you guessed the base gray could be made a bit darker. The net effect will be to show the environment more.

Darker on the texture you posted. BTW the name for this type of texture is diffuse map.
