Example 1, You are flying over looking for a werble. He is tucked in trees so nearly impossible to see. You watch for tracers and see them. You hit the zoom to check the area and his tracers just disappear.
Example 2, You are in a GV. There is a tank sitting On a hill shelling the ack on your base. You BARELY SEE TANK SHELL TRACERS. You go to zoom or your tank sight and they disappear COMPLETELY!
I have mentioned this more than once. Thought this time I would post examples as it appears I am not understood.

Yes, seen this. Ships guns same way. Had a GV shooting at a CV, went so zoom so I could splod him with a 5", and the tracers weren't visible.

I do not use tracers, I rely on the hit sprites for feedback. I experienced the same bug when zoomed in but for me the hit sprites disappeared when shooting at an ack position on a field

The disappearing tracers are a serious issue when attempting to find ground objects and there has been no apparent attempt to do anything about this. Mentioned this to Skuzzy one day when he was in the game. He suggested I post about it here. As you can see not much has come of it.
