Like the title says. It sucks to climb up high to chase a bomber icon, only to find a TBM on the deck. :furious

It sucks for the TBM as well... :(
Bomber icon for formations only would make chosing a single bomber (which includes the C-47) more viable, and thereforr AH more tactically diverse. :old:

I agree, this sounds like a good idea not only for making life better for bomber interdictors, but for encouraging the tacical single-ship bombers over the big boxes.

Seems to me that any incoming bomber, single or a formation, would get priority from a radar operator reporting perspective. Makes sense to have the icons in line with that rather than for saving interceptors a long climb followed by a swift dive.

How would a radar operator spot the difference between a Mossie 16 (bomber) and a Mossie 6 (fighter), or the SBD (bomber) vs a heavy fighter of similar size?

I've said it before, there should be more variance in the available icons.

In those cases they wouldn't. But they'd certainly know a single Lanc, B- bomber, or A-20 from a pony/spit/Ki/yak/F-series plane.

With my mossie XVI I could fly into a contested base and defenders would scoot out of my way thinking that I am a Mossie VI and that they are about to eat a faceful of hizzukas. Not any more.
If the radar is up the scam is exposed immediately and I attract every fighter in the sector. At least with the mossie I can still slip through, lob my bomb and try to bolt out of there, but if I am in SBD - forget about it.

No. They will not.
But I spent only a few year staring at radar screens and you express such certainty that I have doubts.

Ju-87 have a bomber icon if its a D and fighter icon if its a G...
All single engine bombers and twin engine bombers without drones should have a fighter icon.

I'd like to see the radar display like it used to be. Just dots. If we wanted to expand upon that, after making ID maybe a user could select the dot and input fighter or bomber and that icon would appear? Might be too much of a PITA. Dots and no icons works for me.

The icons are interpretations of the contacts - I too would rather have small, medium, and large contact size dots and leave it at that. Radar on the one hand gives us TOO MUCH information with the icons, and TOO LITTLE information (no indication of altitude). How about a color shift of some kind between low, medium, and high altitude contacts?
