I flew the FSO tonight as a walk-on. I have not done one of these since the AOL Air Warrior days! Doc4 brought me in, and helped me through setup.
We flew 109s, and Doc, Hotard and other pilots reminded me how drop my external tank (which, even after 22 years playing this game, I forgot how to do), and basically made sure I got to a fight.
It was just as I remembered it - lots of tense time flying around, and then a minute of absolute mayhem. I got hits on B-25, then got target fixated on a Typhoon, then got jumped by two other Typhoons, lost some parts, tried to dive away, but was killed.
I had a great time!
Thanks to Doc4 for making sure I got my 109 up and running, kitting out my plane, pointing me in the right direction, and keeping me in the gaggle.
The FSO would a great experience for newbies, since you have a whole group of AH veterans on squad VOX who can help you out and give you advice on how to keep your head on a swivel in a vicious cockfght (to quote Ron Burgundy).
Here's a suggestion - have a FSO specifically for AH newbies (with perhaps less complicated rules), where they fly a mission with seasoned pros. As they're alting and looking for bogies, they can get info on how best to play the game. Seems like a perfect opportunity to help out new players, while having a great time.
And thanks again Doc - sorry I did not survive the mission!

good post mutha and very true!! with JG54, We allow anyone to join us also, just so we can get more people interested in the FSO and in the game. I'm sure most of the other squads are the same way. no one has to stay with us, but everyone is welcome to join us, just to get the feel of the FSO. JG54 happily takes new and seasoned players, whenever possible.

I saw you came in, glad you had a great time.
FSO is one of the best things about Aces High.

Wish granted, you just did it.

Here is the forum for FSO discussion.
If you're interested the 412th would love to have you as a regular. <S>

I know exactly what you mean about target fixation on that typhie. Choose your fights wisely, and maintain SA or it will be an early night for ya.
Long live FSO, my favorite part of AH!

I was hoping to fly with you in the air Kanth - I suppose you might have been in one of the Typhoons that hunted me down!

I would be honored to fly with you, TC and company in FSO! Friday nights can be tough for me, but once I commit, I'll be there - please include me in!

I"m sure you will, Mutha  I was in a Mossie this last time.
There are logs that show what all went down during FSO. I don't know if anyone told you.
They are here: http://www.ahevents.net/index.php/event-logs (http://www.ahevents.net/index.php/event-logs)
Select a FSO Event to Display Logs for.
it's DDAY +7 Frame 1 and then
Hit Get FSO Logs.
:salute

Any noob or vet who would like to try FSO on for size can contact any AK (names all start with AK - Except for AKAK, he's an imposture :D) and indicate your interest. We frequently have a few guest spots and would be glad to give you a nice shiny plane to fly..

Dude, his humpback is a genetic defect, give him a break.

There used to be Snapshot special events that I guess died from lack of participation. That was like a mini FSO with no prior commitment or squad affiliation needed. I enjoyed the FSO's that I flew in but these days Friday evening is not predictable very far out and I guess that a true 'walk on' structure doesn't work with all the planning for FSO.
Bottom line is more players.

Brooke still runs D-Day and special ops during the year.
