Title: TrackIR / Partial Keyboard Disabled
Post by: Electroman on June 12, 2017, 04:32:59 AM
Hi All,

I have noticed periodically when I have TrackIR enabled and I start AHand go into the game that most of my keyboard is not functioning. It appears that the Function Keys (F1 - F12) seems to work, but any of the regular letters to do things like O for open bomb doors, P to enable Wep, etc etc all do not function. Yet, if I open a chat window and type those same letters they work fine in the chat window, or if I alt-tab out of game all keys work fine.

This is getting very annoying because I need to check it every time I start the game and if not working have to exit / reboot game to get it to work (and sometimes more than once and also have to shutdown / restart TrackIR). It's also a pain if I've already upped a plane because I can't get my gear down again and end up having to belly land / crash on runway. There is a problem between the AH game and the TrackIR.

Has anyone else noticed this problem and can anyone recommend a way to get this fixed / troubleshoot further so it can get fixed?

Cheers,
Elec1

Same here.

Could be an under powered USB if you are not using a powered USB hub.  Gaming software for a keyboard can also be problematic.

The game has no control over the keyboard.  We only react to what Windows gives us.

Try this.  Go into the Options->Controls->Map Key panel, the press the keys you think are not working.  If they do not light up in the virtual keyboard, then the keys are not being sent to the game.

If that is the case the something is either intercepting the keys before they can be sent to us, or the keyboard is not powered any longer.

Hi All,

Not using a USB powered hub - plugged directly into the motherboard USB ports. I am also using TIR5.

Skuzzy - I did this in game. When on the virtual keyboard as mentioned I can press the F1 - F12 keys and they work and a couple of various keys but all of the main letters in particular do not work. Yet, if I press the key to bring up text chat (which does work) and hit the letters they type fine in game. Also if I Alt-Tab out of the game to my desktop and type the keys say for example in notepad the keys are working fine as well.

So if the game is receiving what is sent from Windows I'm not sure where the disconnect is as Windows appears to be working? It is only happening while in game?

There are two keystroke capture methods.  One uses the scan code of the key and the other uses the ASCII representation.  It sounds like the scan codes are not being passed to us.

Try this.  Rename the "settings" folder and just try it to see if it makes any difference.

A DXDIAG output might reveal something as well.

Here is my DxDiag output.

Re: Settings folder I can rename that but when I restart the game most times it fixes the issue so will not immediately know. As well, I'll lose all my joystick / keyboard mappings? Or can I just copy over a couple files at least to keep those?

Your stick and keyboard mapping files could be the issue.

I haven't had that particular problem either. I did however have a joystick input problem recently. It was because of the latest update in Team Speak. Had to roll it back about 5 updates to get much of by joystick mapping to work. :uhoh
