Title: Failed initialization with new update
Post by: Oldman731 on June 13, 2017, 08:37:48 PM
Ran the update, answered "yes" to "would you like to run Aces High now?"

Got a small box in the middle of the screen that said:

ERROR
Initialization failed with -9
mainWLD_FAILED -1

Rebooted the computer, same problem.  Tried running both the 9 and 11 .exe programs, same error.

WTF?

Yaknow every time I just run the game directly on updating it always gives me trouble. I update, reboot, then run AH.

Sorry to Hear this Oldman, I'm sure Skuzzy will have a answer in the morning.  :salute

You may have to download the full install and reinstall AH, Oldman.

Try running the game from the Windows Start menu.  If that fails, then a full installation of the game over the top (DO NOT REMOVE YOUR GAME) of the existing installation will fix it.

If running it from the Windows Start menu works, then remove the desktop ICON's and make new shortcuts.

We suspect the shortcuts are getting corrupted, especially if Windows or the game is being run from an SSD.  Seems to happen on hard drives as well.

The start menu effort failed.  The full installation over the top, without removing the game, appears to have worked.  In the process I found that I still had a folder for the beta version )(or was it the alpha?), which I have deleted.  I feel cleaner now.  Will try this over the weekend to see if everything works, but so far it seems as if it does.

Thanks very much, Sensei.

In fact, my views have marginally improved.  I can sort of see out the back of my old Hellcat.

Good work, Skuzzmeister, thanks for the tip.

Yes... dredging up an old post, but every X number of updates, I get this as well (updating to .13 hit me last night).

It has happened so often, probably five times since my first post which was probably back around 3.05, I've gotten into the habit of saving core directories the minute I see the "out of date" message.

Nothing we can really do anything about.  Many SSD's are going to create the problem due to how they have to create a memory disk drive in order to update files.  Some SSD's have a bug in the firmware which makes it worse.

It is one of the reasons we tell people not to run the game from an SSD.

Another thing which can cause it is not having enough contiguous free system RAM available.  This also is aggravated by SSD's due to them using system RAM for a temporary drive.

Another thing which can cause it is ANY anti-xxx software.  The worst offenders are Kaspersky, Avast, and Norton (in that order, I might add).
