I wish there were artillery sites in junction with spotter capabilities for certain planes which could call them over their location.

HT, remember DOA? That was a pretty cool novelty.

I believe what they've got in mind is some kind of gameplay where you up a "spotter plane" and somewhere on the map there's a destructible AI artillery battery you tell to fire, then tell to adjust fire so they're on target.

Not sure how that would be done in such a way that it wouldn't get to the point of "the VH at this base is at 4,3,2,4 and the RNG will mean it might take 3 salvos to hit that spot".  Maybe have the artillery bases work like a spawn point, random location for the battery, then have it only able to open salvo based on being able to see your plane's dot and you adjust fire in relative terms from where it hits like sea mode instead of in absolute terms like land mode gunnery on the ships.

Not sure what to make of the idea honestly.

Make them railway guns like the German Krupp.  The Brits and French had them too.  That way you can roll them up to a dynamic front line to be in range of targets you want to shell.  Add a few flak cars to it too for protection against interdiction missions.

Anyway, I like the idea.

I guess if you bailed out at 30k over the town you could get a good 30 minutes in the chute to work with a battleship gunner to call in rounds :)

You can up a LVT4 with the pack 75mm howitzer as mobile artillery and then have a friendly fighter act as a FO to spot the rounds.

How about self propelled artillery vehicles? Like the American 105 "Priest" or the German 155 "Hummel"? Have the vehicles have the same feature as the 5in guns on destroyers.

Ppl could drive a self propelled arty vehicle out from a spawn and blast a town or base etc from range, or in defense of a v-base where the arty would merely drive out of the hanger and fire indirect at the enemy.

Having a spotter plane would be all the better, storchs from a v-base and any plane on the offense.
