I wish the game would allow higher resolution of fuel loads, from 0 to 100% in 1% increments.
Not like the 25% steps that we have now.
-
+1. And also add the ability to select different amount of fuel in different tanks so you could fly for ex P-40 w empty aft tank.
-
How many crew chiefs do you know from WWII that would fill a plane with 53% of fuel?
-
Easy. Simple math. ie if you have a 100 gallon tank, just add 53 gallons:)

Why? What would be the point?

Just to add more variation to the game, since planes will be all performing differently with more customized loadouts.
-
Both weight and balance are affected by the fuel, and some planes feels it more than others.

take the 410 for example 25% is too much.. sometimes you have aircraft that 25% is too little and 50% is too much.
or in the case of bombers your talking about hundreds of lbs of fuel.

From my point of view I plan that into my flight path. I'll take a longer route to the fight to burn off more gas if I think Im going to need to be lower fuel state. In many cases you'll see me fight with a drop still hanging from my P47 because I know Ill need the fuel to linger. To me its all part of the game. Manage your fuel, manage your ammo, manage your E state.
I think that might be one of the things lost to todays players. They would rather look for added game mechanics instead of "thinking" about all that other crap. Why think about maneuvering for position when you can HO and get an easy kill/up a new plane.
To me, its part of the strategy. Load out the right amount of fuel, ammo, bombs, rockets to complete the mission you have in mind. Do any of the newer players have a mission in mind or do they just launch with the horde? The game is so much more IF you use what they put into it.

I do the same thing, one of the main reasons I take 50% in almost everything and a drop. I use the drop just for climbing and getting to where I want to go.

Quite honestly fuel loads doesn't need to be changed in the game. The 25% increments we have now work just fine for the game.

25% in a 410 is barely enough to get through a fight, actually. While it has long range it also guzzles gas on WEP like mad. You'll get all of ... what is it now... 15 minutes flight when you pound the WEP with 25%. The only thing I can guess (and just a guess, no offense intended) is that you're taking DTs to drop so that when you get to combat you're lighter. That's a bit of an exploit. While I wouldn't mind more fuel control on some planes with lots of internal storage, I am against general exploiting of the game to unrealistic ends.

The solution to that is, of course, to not allow any drop tanks unless the internal tanks are 100% full.
Of course that wouldn't allow the outcome desired, but hey, not my problem. :p
