Title: Outside view in flight offline
Post by: KillerPops on July 06, 2017, 05:18:42 PM
Just tried this, but it doesn't work anymore (for fighters). It works while on the ground, but not in the air. Is this a new feature? Is it an easy way to get outside view?

It never did in the Main/Melee arenas.

Only bombers are allowed an outside view  (F3) in the air. It simulates having a bunch of guys looking all around. Fighters had only what the one guy in the cockpit could see.

Lusche, is that a setting that could be changed in a custom arena?

In offline mode. As far as I remember it always worked in offline mode

Doh. Have to work on my reading skills  :o

That can be adjusted in options, arena setup, view mode flags

If you are offline and cannot go to an external view, then select Options->Arena Setup->Environment->Arena Settings, scroll the list to the bottom and select the "ViewModeFlags" and check the options you want.

As usual the mosquito is the exception. It has more that one crew, but you cant switch to the 2nd crew position like you can with gunners, you cannot move the pilot head position inside the cockpit to look outside over his seat, and you dont get F3 view.

The mosquito VI navigator does not contribute anything except his lbs weight. He may be replaced by a sack of potatoes and no one will notice - performance wise. He is invaluable though because his tenor complements my bariton very well when we sing duets on route.

I dont mean to hijack, but I got reminded of a question :lipsrsealed: Why DO bombers have F3 mode? Just curious again I guess

Because the gunners can see all around the aircraft and talk to the pilot.

Having flown an aircraft with a Navigator for several years, that sounds about right (except that I can't sing).  Don't forget that Navigators are all afflicted with some type of gastric problem - their gas can clear a room or perhaps a small house in under 30 seconds...
