I wish for the IL-2 to have F3 mode again. sure it has 37mm cannon to kill GV's( if your good enough)but it's external view or it's rear view is extremely limited, worse than the P-47's F4U's or the F6F when you are flying it and being attacked you can't see what is attacking you or it's position and very easily get shot down, with no real chance to evade. please look into this again. thankyou

are you saying that the IL2 views are wrong, or that you simply dont like them?
If the latter, then too bad - the real plane sucked too.

when your flying 1 u can't see enemy planes behind you, this game is a lot different than real life.
-1 it has great views already. Also you won't want Ghi back in it with the fish flopping.... as for ghi he's gonna fish flop in no matter no matter what he fly's.

You can set the key views so that you can furball in the Il2. I use only 2-axis mode with my TrackIR which inherits the saved views.
Open notepad, then copy all of the numbered lines of text below into it. If needed remassage all of it to look like what is pasted in below. Save the file as: il23.hps.txt
Copy that to the: C:\Hitech Creations\ Aces High III\settings\planes
Rename it to il23.hps and go offline, spawn out the IL2 on the runway and use the key views to see what I setup. I furball fine with those views.

The other planes justified F3 with multiple crew reporting the SA.
If F3 is not to come back, then my wish is to allow the pilot's cockpit view to extend rearward to the same stern limits as the rear gunner.

If it's only about SA then you might have better traction wishing for disabled weapons in F3 mode as well.

Don't take this personally, I am not attacking you.
The visibility out of the cockpit is part of the plane's properties and built into its design. The designers of the IL2 loaded it up with steel plates knowing full well that they restrict the pilot's vision. It is a trade-off and part of what this plane is. P47s and P51 lost performance when they switched to the bubble canopy, but it was considered a worthwhile tradeoff. With the IL2 they traded the pilot's views for armor.
The real thing had a gunner that could communicate the SA to the pilot. This is not the same as having unrestricted view by the one holding the stick. F3 view is a concession allowed to multi-crew bombers in the game - it should not be handed around easily. The way HTC implemented it is already too inclusive when it is given to any plane that rolls out of the BH. It makes sense to give it to heavy bombers that fly steady and level and have 3-10 crew, but Mossie XVI, Stuka, A20, Dauntless, perhaps others should not have had it. No need to add another to this list.

Everything is a trade off between realism and playability, but I also vote to keep it as The single engine bombers like the B-5, D-stuka, SBD, TBM etc see very little action so its not an issue that they have external view, people aren't misusing them anyway. The A-20 is maybe the one that should not have external view. It is an Attack aircraft and used exclusively in that role while the Boston is the bomber version..

1st off Bustr I don't have Trackir(wish I did) 2nd what the heck is that your trying to tell me.
3rd- I don't use the IL-2 to furball that would be dum
sometimes I shoot down an enemy plane clearing a friendy's six. I would just like to see whats behind me so I can try to evade better.
I will just continue to get shot down while trying to kill gv's

explain to me how F3 mode in a IL-2 was being misused.
Certain players (1 in particular) was able to use f3 plus "porpoising" his plane to make it disappear below the terrain on your end while he was in normal flight in his end. You thought he augered and he would shoot you from "under the terrain" when you flew past. Also the problem with placing a dot on your screen to mark the crosshairs so you could fire from an outside view and still be laser accurate.

1.- That is the content of the head position file you generate for the IL2 when you set your views. I've always been able to furball with the IL2 with those views, keypad, hat switch or TR. Follow the instructions and you can see what I set my views to.
2.- Your opening statement was poorly worded then because it reads for the world like you want to be able to do air combat with your IL2 along with tank busting. Half the time I up in an IL2 the green guys around me are abysmally incapable of using their fighters to keep red guy fighters off me while I work on killing the tanks killing their field. I end up being just another base defense fighter with giant guns.

hmmm I don't see anywhere here where it says I want to furball with the IL-2.
I see this-->with no real chance to evade, last I looked evading was not furballing. when ords are down I try to use the IL-2 for base and town defense.

but you see I don't take the IL-2 to another field why would I-that's what fighters and attack planes are for.
I still don't see why everybody is so scared to have the IL-2 in F3 mode.

Just look at any of the TA furball buddies that only know how to fight in F3. It gives you so much more SA and even related to your position above the ground, against targets, or dodging incoming attacks you have no business seeing.
There's nothing legit about it. You don't like it, take a different plane, get some air cover, a wingman, a friend, or fly a Hurr2D or a Stuka (better guns I believe?).
No offense, but it's not a good request IMO.

Only if they give GVs f3 mode like they had in the AH3 beta. It was like having a drone in the air using mouse view from above in the towns to see what street in town an enemy tank was on as it hunted you or vice versa. Of course camera drones weren't around in WW2 as pilots eyes outside of an aircraft cockpit weren't either.

F3 mode is fake gamey garbage and was abused which is why it is gone. You can see in anIl-2 what the pilots who flew them saw. if you want a better view, quickly jump to the gunner seat have a look, and jump back to pilot seat. Even that is faster than asking the gunner over the radio was in real life. :salute

In real life the Russian in the back would be screaming in your ear. You wouldn't need to ask.
From my reading, a lot of IL-2 gunners died. It wasn't a seat you wanted.

AFAIK the pilot seat was armored. The gunner had no armor to speak of. :uhoh

Life was cheap for them, from a top-down perspective.
"Quantity has a quality of its own..."
The solution remains: Fly something else, or get a wingman, or a tail gunner, or some top cover. I don't expect to take up a B-17 and turn fight with zekes, now do I? Pick the right plane for the job and the environment.
