Title: Mustang in fatal crash
Post by: Zimme83 on July 17, 2017, 08:26:02 AM
The pilot and passenger were killed when the plane impacted terrain, seems like a violent crash:

The plane was 'baby duck'.

The plane was a part of the first batch of P-51 to be delivered to the SwAF in April 1945 in order to boost the SwAF before the planned invasion of Denmark (that never occured since the German forces in Denmark surrendered)
It was sold to FA Dominica in 1953 and returned to the US in 1983.

Tragic.  Stuff happens in a split second.

Does carrying a passenger negatively affect the center of gravity in a P-51?  IIRC, the area where a second seat is installed is where radio gear used to be.  WWII radios were big and bulky.

Many of the remaining P51s have been converted to TF51s arousing the ire of purists everywhere.

But then........it does make it possible to take up a passenger to familiarize him with the plane.
