It is nice, but if people keep asking for things to be added to the HUD, I sure hope they make it an optional preference for each item

Sounds like a new wish... :aok

Was considering that, just didn't have the time for this patch.

Of all hud items I wish I could deselect the auto pilot indicator :salute
-
Shhhh, in FSO we use that to link onto our flight leader so we can go to the jon...... :O
-
There is a light for that... :neener:

The saddest thing for me was within a month after they implemented that indicator I wingman autopiloted in FSO, went afk, and apparently bumped the stick as I went by. Came back in the tower. Since then, I triple check it if I have to do that anymore.

Wiley.
Use modes. Copy mode 1 to mode 4. Unmap the pitch, roll, and rudder axis for mode 4. Use mode 4 when you need an auto pilot that stays on when you're afk.
This also lets you calibrate the stick while flying.

It was a sad AH day when the hud was added.

It was a sad AH day when the hud was added.
I frowned at it when I saw it. Turned it off promptly. If ever information display gets to a point of too much convenience, that it removes the character or flavor of WW2 combat aviation, I would lose interest.

I skoffed at the idea of a hud in this era but see now that it serves to compensate for the lack of g forces and natural peripheral clues to ones attitute.

Thanks.

It keeps me awake at night. With the last additions, I practically don't need the gauges in my cockpit anymore. On the other hand, I can't feel the Gs. On the third hand, it's really helped me time things right when I'm hammerheading/coming over the top.
I use it, but it makes me feel slightly dirty.

Hitech,
if you are thinking about making what you see in the hud optional. how about adding the option of adding some of the EB6 information up there? fuel remaining would be the one that i am thinking of in particular.
thoughts?

It seems to have morphed into a 21st century HUD, replacing gauges that are already on the instrument panel. Too gamey for me, but guess I'll be at a disadvantage to them what likes it. :old:

Kong,
I agree with you in to an extent. but in defense of the HUD option. some of the gauges are very hard to read or you are unable to read them at all. if I could clearly see all of my gauges in all of the aircraft I would say that the HUD system is un needed. ( i cant even read the German and Brit gauges )
-
I must agree with Petey on this. I have a hard time seeinng the instruments myself. I think the HUD is like ICONS on aircraft, there to help out the rendering we get from computer monitors which in no way are as good as real life.
-
When was there a HUD feature, with the last update?
-
Chuikov, the HUD display (default location is top right corner of the screen) has been in AH3 awhile, this last update has added new information/details.....
It can be moved to any location that might suit you better... I forgot what thread it was where I asked Bustr how he did it and he explained how to....

Under options and preferences, when you select GUI, the HUD in the upper corner gets a dark box around it, drag it to where you want it. All movable information things like text will get a dark box for moving them.

I have a mirror taped to the desk, so it turns the German gauges upside-down and backwards, then they are easy to read. :D
Seriously, I find the gauges are very readable, especially with the new fat red "thousands" pointers. (Turning anti-aliasing off also helps.) And they look cool! :D

The HUD gives you information you get by the seat of your pants, or from your instruments. The fuel calculations in the E6B are neither. Fuel Remaining is not right in front of you. The E6B is there so you can calculate how much fuel and range you have remaining. You have to open the clipboard and look at the E6B in game, the same way you would have to look at your E6B in real life to get the same information.

Petey,
I hate to tell you this, but you get that in real aircraft as well. Gauges hidden behind the yoke, on the other side of the cockpit, or otherwise placed in areas where you can't easily see/read them, and this is in aircraft built in the last 30 years or so. Back in the Dark Ages (including all time periods covered by this sim) gauge and control placement wasn't really standardized, and as more stuff was added, it would be shoe-horned in wherever it could be made to fit.

HUD off. Hope it did not take up too much time that could have been used elsewhere.

You'll notice the updated FM2 and F4F do not have accelerometers. Also none of the WW1 aircraft have them. Learning flying is more difficult without some g awareness. The pitch ladder and HUD are optional, just like auto take off and auto trim, and they serve the same purpose of easing entry for new players. If you know what you're doing, turning learning aids off shouldn't put you at a disadvantage. It's not like they can use the gunsight aid in the MA.
