Anyone noticed an influx of new players. I know it's not available on Steam yet, but if you saw the advertisement on Steam and really wanted to get the game, wouldn't you go directly to HTC and download and play the game? I'd think we would be seeing some impact on the numbers even with the decision by HTC to delay the opening on Steam.
-
If a certain Steam advocate on this board is any indication, many Steam players wouldn't go out of their way to contact a developer directly to pay for a game...they'll just wait until they can get it through Steam; even if it's available for free.
-
This.
I have steam, other people I game with have steam. They look at as, "I have Steam loaded and set up for payment. Also, if I don't like the game, I can get a refund from Steam." No such protection from the HiTech site.

Isn't it more likely they have been visiting these forums just to see what we are about while waiting for the go live date on Steam? That could be a double edged sword and why Skuzzy gave us a reality check about how we were interacting with nugetx. A co-equal question might be has Skuzzy seen an uptic in guest lurking during this time frame. Anecdotal as it could appear and be nothing but people doing some summer time odd net surfing.

I would not worry about new players until they shoot you down. This genre is far more flooded than peak years, current game play has little to interest a new player and definitely not someone who has grown used to organized fighter action from other games, and the 15 dollar a month subscription fee will swat the rest away. but what do i know, im just a paying customer.

On Steam if you've purchased something and played less than 2 hours you can get a refund on it.
Wiley.

14 days, 2 hours of play - but that is not a be all, end all.
-------------------
How To Request A Refund
Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any title that is requested within 14 days of purchase and has been played for less than 2 hours. Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we've described, you can submit a request and we'll take a look at it.
Additional information and troubleshooting instructions for existing refund requests can be found in our Common Refund Questions FAQ.
-------------------
If your machine can't pull a game, they are more likely to give a refund outside the window.
Also, part of Aces High is free - so I suspect the 2 hours won't start until Steam collects the coin. But then, who knows. Maybe not.

If you're talking about Steam and an Aces High refund, Steam lists it as a free game. Any subscription you pay for will go through the game itself, so any refund would have to be from HTC themselves.

I dont know anything about Steam, so for my own clarification..
Player X pays sub to Steam, Steam lists AH3 as a free game, so they get to play it for the price of their subscription to Steam? Is that correct?
-
Nah..i think steam is just the middle man..they pay the same as us

There is no such thing as a 'subscription to steam'.
It's just a digital marketplace/distribution system.

New players will come when it will launch on steam.
90% of steam users will get it via steam and not the 'official' website.

I have seen new players as well the last few weeks!
Treat them well and give them melk and cookies they will need it after being shot down :old:

a computer program that holds control over the "game you play"
steam errors, Updates, total control of your game you "bought". In other words, they hijack your computer and you apart of the cult.

Ok....what are you some sort of Steam rep that just showed up here to plug the Steam thing???
I'm almost certain that every post you have made you either referenced Steam in some capacity or your were talking about the consequences of AH going to Steam or not going to Steam...
This is what the majority think of Steam

Maybe he's excited about it.
Many gamers use steam as the only source of their games.
-
Because Aces High doesn't worry about copy protection schemes (like the infamous Star Force), Steam doesn't really offer any advantages over direct download other than advertising to a very large user base. But, when a game gives up draconian DRM restrictions in favor of Steam licensing, I love it. Buy one license, install on as many PCs as you like. Play on any one PC, and if you aren't playing it, you can share it with another person's steam account that is using the same PC. But DCS World manages to screw up the advantages of Steam and make people wish they had purchased directly from Eagle Dynamics. It uses the Steam licensing and the license activation scheme of the regular download at the same time, defeating the whole purpose of using steam since it counts activations. Worse yet, Steam users are last to get patches and new modules.
Hopefully, Steam will do for AH what it needs: expose a large user base and result in higher arena numbers that equal or exceed numbers from years in the past.

I get a kick out of folks who post these " hard data proven statistics" like it's Heaven's own truth. :D

I think your numbers are skewed

Studies show that 85% of statistics quoted are made up.

Maybe he is just excited, and I get that. I've got some games on Steam that have their own launchers. It's a 1-stop shop for me and I have the external friends list which I've used to good effect in the past depending on the game. BF:BC2, for example, had terrible matchmaking and you had to set up a fireteam with voice comms in Steam first then go into the game if you wanted to communicate (and yes, it made the game so much better even just doing that with 1-2 others vs the entire server of mute randoms).
I get that some folks like the idea of AH on steam. That's good. I just caution a little restraint on the expectations until it's actually up and running.
-
I hope there is a BIG influx so I can come back. Aces is a lot cheaper then going to a casino. Have set a reminder notice for about 2 weeks from now to check in. Would love to see 400 on a Friday night in the MA. Chewie. Bish baby!

110 people right now at euro prime time :aok

130 7:40PM East. No more or less then usual.

Does the two week trial apply to steam as well? In any case, a new player may possibly get confused and think he can only get into the free arena, which is usually empty. A clarification would help not losing a potential customer on the first day.
-
All you old farts giving him a hard time about steam are the same problem many steam players are going to have with the game and force them to leave.
See enough times where you guys think just because you have been here for years that your opinion weighs more then a new persons....be open minded, if it's a suggestion that's been shot down already give them the reason and don't be an bellybutton about it.
Best thing you can do is help them, if you are a good stick...crutch yourself(fly lower altitudes, Fly high eny, fight from the disadvantage). Don't take advantage of them or put them down because they are new to the community.
