Title: Just some advice for HTC
Post by: N95KF on August 22, 2017, 11:17:57 PM
I've noticed that the first tab you see when joining online is the Free tab, which is usually empty.

I think it might be a good idea to have the Tab that the Melee Arena sits in be the first one for several reasons:

1. New players to Aces High who haven't played yet might not notice the tabs up top and think the entire game is dead, so why buy it?

2. New players who first notice an arena with over 150 pilots might stick around and subscribe faster!

3. It is easier for most of the community to have the Main Arena as the first one to click without tabbing every time

The first tab is for the arenas that are free.  It makes the free arenas easier to find.

Someone had a great idea to put them all on one page and color code them.

could have main arena first with a free tab second, so they see numbers first and drool a little.

yep I posted something like that as well and what you are referring to looked great aswell.

while we are at it why don't we place a roster tap next to it?

That is what I was getting at.

Some knuckleheads who don't have the time and don't know the format, on the fence, 50/50 interested will see 0 players and quit immediately

I go back and forth in my thinking which should be first.

When I first start up a new game that I've never played before, I look at all the options on the opening screen to see what's available. If I was new to this game, I'd do the same. It's not difficult. Why would you want to show a new player somewhere that they can't get to without paying first? I think that would be more of a turnoff. Don't be so selfish by wanting one less mouse click to play the game.

Don't new players get 2 weeks in the MA for free?

you could also list them all on the same tab and prepend "FREE -"
in front of some of them or/and color code them.

The free arena will be fun for awhile for them... then they will wonder.. whats in that arena with 350 folks in it.

(Hopefully more soon)

3000 is a pretty far reach..  i hope steam works well.

Please apply the KISS idea to the arena list at login.  Dangle that big chaotic MA in their face every time they log in, along with the free arenas for guys on the fence.

Or somehow make those tabs up top pop out a little more.

ive seen some people post that 350 or even 1000 were in other arenas....????  when was the last time the main arena had 350 on at the same time?....like 20012?.....heck numbers are declining everywhere...just ask the greatest records keeper of the game ..lusche.  even fso gets LESS than 200 players on a regular basis.   dissapointing.

Regarding your question about when was the last time the main arena had 350 players on at the same time...

around the 2nd or 3rd Friday night in June 2017, when I logged on a couple hours early before FSO was to start at 11:00 PM EDT.

There was well over 400+ people total online with something like 372 (or 379) in the Main Arena,  4 people in Special events arena 1,  7 people in the WWI arena and over 30 people in the Training Arena with a handful of people using the Free to play & Custom Arenas....

Most times on Friday night, the numbers average 300+ when it's a FSO night

I agree with the OP, just put all the arenas on one tab. Make the match play, and DA separate arenas. Add a free flight FFA for quick fighter action. You will have gold.

My question is; When they sign up through Steam, they will be starting their 2 week trial?  If so, having the Main Arena the first thing they see would be best, not a blank list. :aok

I remember someone telling me I was wrong when I said I remember a Titanic Tuesday with over 1,000 in an arena....was this around that time?

I was offered the 2 week trial, and I think "plus two weeks" on top of that but the terminology was a little shady. The first thing I saw was the melee arena with about 90 players in it. Certainly looks a lot better than when I switched to the 'free' tab, with two empty arenas in it.

the tab with the most players should be first/default

There could not have been over 1k in an arena. the 1370 was across multiple arenas.

Hitech if you took the Dueling arena map and just kept the furball lake only restricted the Tempest, 163, 262, and bombers. Put it under the free tab maybe even have a little pop up window "INSTANT ACTION FURBALL" or whatever you wanted to say it would be extremely beneficial long term. The match play is amazing. But it wouldn't compare to this. I firmly believe these "young steam players" won't last long without instant action. Every other game that they play they are one button away from instantly fighting multiple people. I speak from experience believe it or not the main reason I can't stay hooked on this game for long stretches is the complete boring flights from one base to another in the MA.

After re-reading what I posted here I still believe in this. Just trying to see where your company could profit from this.. if they just stay in the free arena you don't get anything.. how can we transition them? May be the better idea.
