Using a hog for cv cap, rolling in on an Arado ar234, Overtaking him in a good dive, and The At, ignites the RATO. I guess some don't realize what the acronym is...I'm pretty sure that the RATO pods would not stay put at 460mph. and what about the drag...laughable though. I guess it deserves the dancin' banana.

Is it possible for you to not use all caps in your titles? It's really annoying.

Much ado about nothing.

Rod, the drag is in fact modeled. And the weight. If you KEEP them you suffer quite a bit taking off and actually climbing out. They keep them like that to use as a novelty like you mentioned, getting away from a target. Not overly historic, but then neither is bombing CVs in Ar234s, eh? The item itself and its execution and modelling is correct, and we use it how we like. You could nose down and ignite them when facing the ground, if you liked. Technically that would work in reality too -- you'd just not get a respawn like in this game.

It does seem like they should drop off even if you did not use them in the AH model.

They didn't drop off until you triggered them and then they ran dry. That's how it was in WW2. The only difference was in WW2 they used them immediately on takeoff.
I, myself, preferred to take off with them on, but use them once I was leveled out and gear up to get up to altitude faster. I have, for kicks and grins, saved them for a NOE escape from a carrier that I was bombing, but that's risky as well.

You think the drag is more stress than the thrust?
-
You can also weld a couple to the top of your car and light them off to test the real thrust to drag ratio...........I'm sure your cars brakes could handle it...... :old:
