Title: New player barrier
Post by: nrshida on August 27, 2017, 02:34:09 AM
Please please please, do something about making the chat comms more obvious. Tried to help several obviously new players yesterday afternoon in the TA. Some apparently unable to reply. Granted some may not speak English or want to, I think basic chat should be incredibly obvious.

Video, popup message box, big pointy finger, anything...

Someone like me can find this kind of thing trivial, because I always read the controls. However, I understand that that big list can seem overwhelming at first and a new player might not want to comb through it before interacting with other players.

I suggest a more simplified "Getting Started" like page that pops out just like the MOTD. It could take priority over the MOTD until a "show this first"-like checkbox is unchecked. Of course, a button on the clipboard should be included so that it can be brought up whenever desired. And if possible, this page could have tabs for different, more simplified categories of controls, such as communication, basic flight, shooting, etc. These tabs could be written like a short tutorial with a link to the currently set key for the command, whether default or modified, such as "To start the engine, press { E }".

Something like that, perhaps?

We now have the ability to tie any you tube videos to any first time action in game. Like first time in tower, first time in plane , first time in vehicle......;

If you wish to make a video of what you wish to tell some one (keep it short 45 secs or less) I would be glad to tie it into the game. Most integration would take me less then 10 minutes per video.

Need someone with a cool American accent, like Walter Sorells, but I don't think he plays AH.

The F12 button on the steam version is screenshot for steam, i think this prohibits easy communication. Can we maybe change the default button for steam range?  :old:

Bah -- I report the F12 issue and it gets moved to training and support and I'm told to remap my keys.  Someone else reports the same bug in the Wishlist and HiTech changes it?   :headscratch:

I want credit for this, it's mine!!!    :furious

Your post put it on my list to think what key to swap out.
nrishida post reminded me I needed to change it for the next patch just at the time i was looking for small things to catch before release.
