Steve Hinton JR. may be making an attempt at the record in the newly painted "voodoo".
It is likely they won't be at Reno since they have a new wing profile that hasn't been shaken out on the course while pulling Gs............unless they have two wings and can swap on last years race wing.

In other warbird news........a yak is for sale.

they have a new wing profile
Airfoil or planform?
-
Not sure....when they say "new wing" I'm leaning toward "new wing profile" to raise critical mach.
In the past, more than 100lb of bondo has been scraped off of some P51 wings.
If that's the case, I'm not sure they will be at reno this year.

Postponed until tomorrow due to weather.

That Yak doesn't appear to have much engine cooling.

I'm just thinking it would be quite the project to change the airfoil but it would be reasonably easy to change the shape of the leading edge. That's done all the time on light aircraft for STOL kits.
That's kind of a "plain Jane" paint job.

Pretty sure they have two motors but I'm guessing the one in the plane may be "hotter" and that the issue with it means fixing the left bank with engine in the plane rather than replacement will likely be easier.

They put it back together and made the 4 passes through the timed course today and went faster than the record but not the 1% faster required to "break the record officially".
pass speeds are.....
554.69
527.34
528.48
515.62
Average is 531.53 mph to Rare Bear's 528mph.
Apparently, the engine was giving up on the last pass.
We'll see if they put the other engine in and try again in a few days or show up at reno to race.
