All that stuff looks close to home for me Chuikov, where are (where?) you?  Fat brown, pretty brookies, Beartooths?  Am hoping to get in a short trip into the Bob Marshall soon....smoke right now is discouraging...

Dead fish, boat on bottom of lake, another dead fish, beer bottle found in lake, another dead fish, friends stranding you at lake .... better than AH?  ;)

All fish survived. Heck I even use barbless hooks. THats The snowy mountains in south central Wyoming. I have spent a fair some of time in the beartooths though.

I apparently didn't go far enough into Wyoming on the eclipse weekend. Did see some wonderful Colorado mountains on the way.  :)

Americans go to Colorado for Labor Day, Colorado greenies go to Wyoming, and people from Wyoming wish greenies would go away.

Maybe it's a British thing, but here in America we still have a few places where a guy can fish AND drink out of the same river.

See that snow There?  Winter is around the corner, them drifts could be glaciers soon.

Not much beats a good day in the mountains.  Dry air and clean water!

If they don't come out of a tin or supermarket you cannot be sure! :old:

I would worry much about fish poop, beavers are a different story. If in the high country and you insist on drinking the water, make sure there are no beavers upstream. Giardiasis is no fun.

Those SC WY Mountains look very impressive!   Had planned a backpacking trip into the Wind Rivers earlier, but we ended up diverting to Glacier NP due to weather and smoke.  At 68 and needing a hip upgrade I may not have too many backpacking trips left in me.  But did manage 8 days in the Beartooths last summer.  The young men that I was the pack animal for when they were growing up now help keep the old guy backpacking and hunting by packing extra weight for me.

Then you will look back on this day and regret that you did not play AH instead...

Nice pics ! already cooked from lakes sitting on Yellowstone super volcano. :)
My favorite state to drive my 18 wheeler, it has a western movie flavor, ranches, bars, the landscapes  exactly as i imagined America watching western movies in "70-80s;  Peaceful relaxing driving on I-25/80,  not too many humans to watch for,  but gets messy during winter and dangerous winds.

You can't know for sure of that either because you don't know where they came from before the can or supermarket.

That lake sits at 11k feet so the fish don't get particularly big, but there are lots of them. There are several back country lakes that still contain the native cut throat troat and they can run 5 pounds. The brown was roughly 3 pounds, the Brookies were small. I was more or less screwing around. There are several rivers and lakes down in the Laramie valley that hold some large trout. Lake Hattie has Browns and Bows up to 10#s, I have caught a 6# Bow in the little Laramie river, and the big Laramie river has a crap ton of trout between 12 and 18 inches. The best trout fishing in Wyoming is in the North west portion of the state. The North and South fork of the Shoshone river, the Greybull river, the snake river, the Greys river drainage, and the Clarks fork of the Yellowstone to name a few.

Is that the coveted golden trout?

Golden trout are indigenous to the sierras. There are a hand full of remote alpine lakes in the Rockies that golden trout were introduced in the 30s that managed to sustain the population with out constant stocking. Upper gap lake which is 4 mile beyond the lake in the picture has Goldens. The fish in question is a German Brown Trout.

They are made by a machine and then shaped into fish shapes :old:

If you find this, you will likely find good fishing unless the game wardens have removed the fish for spawning at a hatchery in the interest of preserving the species.

That time of year again. Only made it out for 2 days, but the fishing was pretty damn good. The first day I went for a 3 mike hike into one of the few lakes that have golden trout, it was fairly slow due to the 20mph but I managed to catch my first golden trout. One the way back I hit lookout lake on the way back, pulled 5 Brookies and 6 rainbows. I went out today on the Yampa from 5 to 8 and the fishing was something awesome. I lost track at 15, but I suspect i caught damn near 25 trout. They were not as big as I have caught in the Yampa in the past, they averaged 10-14 inches, I did pull a respectable 18 incher out at dusk. Unfortunately, I didn’t take my phone into the Yampa, but I have a few pictures from the high country.

Post by: Chris79 on August 28, 2018, 11:28:25 PM
At 12000 feet the fish tend not to get that big. There are a few high mountain lakes that have fresh water shrimp that can produce 5lb trout, but mostly the lakes are remnant glaciers and fairly sterile.. the Yampa has good size fish upwards of 10lbs. Back when I was young and stupid I took a 7.5lbr from the Yampa for my wall.
