Low turnout but I shoe'd up 2001 .less than 2 months after Sept 11 Taliban attack..flew into Texas and had the time of my life !!  Lost in final round after disposing of HTC duel round 3..Shift was me wingman to the end🎲..we lost last round vs eagl &Drex (2 f15 USA pilots) in last round affer Shift shot down eagle. .I diverted merge on that one to pull off Drex..it worked..final round tried it again  ..it didn't. ..15 yr old SHIFT went on to be a RAF Harrier CV pilot 😊

I wouldn't expect any knights to show up, its hard enough to get one person to commit to bringing troops to a prepped base.

Over the years, I attended 4 Cons, the last being 2008. Always a blast, especially the Saturday evening Evil Con Mission  :devil :old:

Based on the forum statistics, the community activity is 1/4 what it was in 2008.  How many people were at that con?

Around 65 as I recall. Earlier years it was 85-95.

I managed to get to two in, 2003 and 2004.  2003 was Indianpolis, organised by Jordi, who persuaded me that it would be a good idea to go; otherwise he said, I would be the first Head CM NOT to go - and I couldn't have that!  So I started making plans to get there as economically as possible.  :)  Flew into New York (much cheaper than going to Indy direct) and arranged to be picked up by Dux who was driving from Boston.  He booked us into a motel on the way - separate rooms of course! - and we continued to Indy the following day.  At the convention itself, I shared a room with Jordi on condition his wife Terri was also there!  Dux then drove me back to New York for my return flight, stopping overnight again on the way, and waited with me for about 6 hours I think it was until my flight was due.

Without the generosity of Jordi and Dux I would never have been able to go, but I'm very glad I did.  Getting to meet Dale and other HTC staff was a highlight of my visit which I will never forget.  It was also great to meet so many familiar names and put faces to them while I was there.

The following year, the convention was in Dallas organised by HTC.  This time, with a bit more notice to save for going, I flew to Chicago and then internal flight to Dallas, reversing the route for travelling home.  Arriving at airport and waiting ages for the 'regular bus service' between the airport and hotel, a bus-driver from another company contacted the hotel to ask when it was due.  Seems the service had ended for the day, but someone came out specially for me!  On arrival at the hotel, I was overwhelmed when Dale came and threw his arms around me, greeting me like a long-lost friend!

Two wonderful conventions which I will always remember.  :D

Me in a simpit(?) at 2004 convention.

Pipz, I hear ya - we do need a Canadian convention.  Had a quasi-one 2002 in Calgary - a bunch of us just went out for a beer (how Canadian of us).

We're a friendly bunch up here. Even the Moose are friendly.

There was mini gatherings in Dayton Ohio from 2008 to 2015. The largest one was in 2009 or so and had about 100 people.

And if you GET a knit in a goon, he's usually trying to dogfight cons into the ground with it and forgets to actually drop..

That's a damn lie, after dogfighting fighters into the ground we release supplies over the town because we forgot to load troops!

The huge American cons were the inspiration for our International Spring Meetings, which in turn kicked off the more relaxed autumn spin-off.

Haha Arlo!  I've searched everywhere I can think of.  My current main photo storage on my Mac and on our NAS where we back everything up to.  Even some old CDs.  It's almost as if I never went, but I know I took quite a few photos at the time.  Hmmm just had a thought.... all my digital photos start about October 2003, so maybe they were some of the last ones I took using film.  Today's project - look through all my physical photos!

There used to be quite a few Con pics posted to the boards...O'Club or GD...can't recall which. Highly unlikely they're still being hosted and even so, finding them is way beyond my search capabilities.  :frown:

No, a lot of pics  (including many of mine) disappeared when attachments were no longer allowed and they had to be linked from an external picture-hosting site.   Some threads still exist with text only.  :(

Ooops sorry if I hogged your pc!   :o   Yes, I'm pretty sure I took lots of pictures, especially ones on the journey between New York and Indianapolis, and I definitely remember going around trying to get photos of everyone there.  Unfortunately, I only have a few vague memories of them now.  I never did receive the promised pack of cards Jordi made with my pic as Queen of Hearts LOL.  One of the most important events of my life and nothing to show for it.    :cry

The last round was Spit  mk1 (chosen by Shift)  ......which was then postponed to the Sunday so Drex and Eagle could practice..........

FWIW  "Shift" made Captain last week........... actually he flies RAF Voyager....... we got rid of our Harriers some years ago

I remember most of the '06 con .... to a point. I think it was '06. Met Slash at that one. It was kinda like my first experience at the E Club at A school. Lots of buddies drinking lots of different stuff with extra to pour in me. Good times. No pics (from me) .... but I remember someone posting pics on the forum. I think that incriminating evidence disappeared long ago (but the statute of limitations has surely expired by now).

I posted the pics from the AH2006 convention.  Yes Arlo, you were in them.  I just looked back through some old back-ups and found them.  Anyone know a good free program for hosting so I could post pictures?  All of a sudden photobucket wants money because I posted some images on this forum.

I was only 11 or 12 at the time, and I wish I hadn't missed them and had voiced my interest with my father. I am sure he would have enjoyed attending too (though I doubt my mother would have allowed us to go).

I found some photos from the conventions in the O'Club a year ago, but more recently when searching using keywords to find the forum posts via google or just right in the forum search bar, I have not been able to find any of them now. I still check every so often.
