Title: VC-13 FM-2
Post by: Greebo on September 24, 2017, 04:53:22 AM
Thanks to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin.

This FM-2 was part of composite squadron VC-13, a mixed squadron of Wildcats and Avengers. The Wildcats provided air cover for convoys as well as strafing U boat AA guns to allow the more vulnerable Avengers to make their bomb runs. VC-13 was embarked on the escort carrier USS Core and during the second half of 1943 this carrier's F4Fs and TBMs sank four U boats in the north Atlantic. The white and grey Atlantic paint scheme was designed to make the aircraft less visible from the conning tower of a U boat during an attack.

Its so beautiful it makes me want an escort carrier group added to AH, just so it can fly off an accurately shaped CV.

Outstanding.  The fuselage 20 looks a tad off to me.   Faded?   Purple?   Great job as usual.

The fading is where the exhaust stain is running across the number, the 20 on the tail is the same base colour but without the exhaust stain.

Rog.  Just making sure it is intentional.
