Title: Bustr
Post by: nrshida on November 03, 2017, 03:37:01 PM
Now you've finished your magnum opus MA terrain and after a suitable, say, two-weeks vacation. Can I interest you in the relatively trivial project of making a gunnery range for us fighter jocks. I gather you don't like us too much, but you did one for the ground-pounders, Flak-driver dudes etc, right?

Obviously the targets would be other aircraft. I had in mind the replication of scenarios you see in normal gameplay. So some fighters like Fw190D-9s doing BnZ cycles (to practice shooting upwards), Some Spitfires weaving hard to practice crossing shots. A whole flock of Ki-43s stalling out so we can in turn practice roping shots and so forth. Is this sort of thing possible at all or is a small terrain with drone control beyond the province of the map designer?

Someone once made an offline mission for me in AHII, but the AI pilots were idiots and would fly off by themselves to destinations unknown after they'd quickly shot down my equally idiotic AI wingmen. Probably off to the AI officer's club for tea and medals.

The AvA team knows more about AI additions to terrains than I ever want to know. They used to have a terrain with Ju88 escorted by 109 ranging around a terrain that you could login and go hunt them. I don't know what came of those experiments but, they love it when people come to them with an interest in what they do. My gunnery terrain has air spawns for level bombing, torpedo practice, B25H v CV, and starting out above the drone circle in a fighter so you won't waste half your time climbing up to the circle. I think there is one to go jabo against the task groups.

I used to expend effort trying to wishlist Hitech into giving us more control over what the drones did offline. I ended up building my gunnery terrain instead. I honestly don't have a clue how much real trouble it would be for Hitech to add additional flight path configurations into offline mode for the drones.

Try and find out in the AvA forum about including AI into an arena. You never know, they may have one that can run AI offline for you already.

Ah thanks Bustr. You probably need to play a season of crazy golf as a break from map-making anyway. Many thanks for your work there and contribution to the game.

I will enter the Twilight Zone which is the world of AvA. Smoke me a kipper...

a suggestion for a new map-since you like the little islands how about a target map- big islands on the outer ring smaller islands in the smaller ring and a large TT in the middle. like a Darts target
