Title: Ability to revert from the new "area" range channel
Post by: Spikes on November 05, 2017, 11:15:32 AM
Can we have the option to revert to the old system of Room rather than Range? We can keep the new system as default for new players to make it easier, but it would be nice to hop into the hanger or O'Club again and not have to worry about not being able to hear or have a conversation with someone without moving to a back line base.

Not sure how hard it would be, but just a check box with "Room" or "Range would be nice for Vox.

I guess people opting out of the range channel would kinda defeat it's purpose.
My own proposal for that problem was to generally excempt the Oclub  from the range channel.

If I'm not misunderstanding your request, we already have that option.  As I understand it, the channels are configurable - so you should be able to have either Range or Room, or both, or neither, as you prefer.

You just click on the arrow of one of the four radio channels and select the channel you want from the dropdown selection list.

Or are you asking for this to happen automatically when you go to the Hangar or O'Club?  That might be cool - if you have one of the channels configured for Range or Room - it will automatically be set to "Room" when in the Hangar or O'Club, and automatically revert to "Range" when you leave?

Oboe, this stems from sitting in the tower waiting for the start of FSO and not being able to hear our squad briefing over the constant range chatter.

The simplest fix is jump everyone to a back field and brief them. Usually have the entire pack briefed in by Thursday night well ahead of jump off to avoid that 15 minute pre flight FSO crush of activity.

I agree. Hopping to hangar used to be a great way to separate yourself from other units at the same field so that you could have squadron briefings in FSO (or scenarios, like Rabaul going on right now) and you get SO MUCH radio clutter it's really annoying.

I don't hear it too much in FSO towers but KOTH is affected big time...we can't talk in the tower without the players in game hearing it all.

Also don't like hearing the talk in the tower.

Bring back the old +1

Just exempt the O'club from range vox and give it its own O'club range  :aok

Well just for the record, I LOVE the new range setup. I can be in the tower and convey observations to those in the "air". :x

This would be fair enough. In FSO and other events, it is easy to hop in O'Club to discuss plans. It also gives squad mates a place to go where there is no chatter.

I would like to add that I like the ability of hearing range vox in Tower. However, I feel that the O'Club should be a place free of this.

It amazes me how guys get in the air during a CAP over the field and when you tell them on that new channel from the tower to check their 6, incoming con. They were clueless, and you could hear how rattled they were when they thank you. I hear more often where did that con come from these days. I know this is a game, but it's a brutal game. And lately players are treating looking out for themselves as fighter pilots like they were playing some other kind of game.

If anything, this channel helps introduce new players in the fog of things to look around all the time by how often they get yelled at to look behind them. They putter along once wheels up like they are in a mario bros. race or something. And it dosen't help all the guys in run stangs and dirty doras who climb up out of icon range then dive back in at 500 and suddenly show up out of nowhere, run off and repeat. There is a lot of out of sight out mind these days getting players towered, and why some energizer bunny shows up 30 seconds after the radar comes up to put it back down again. The new tiny fighter icons on radar is making players lazy.

Now days I login, look out the tower, and start telling players on ch7 to check 6 for a poni or dora moving like a 262 up under their tail from otta nowhere. Some are the same players night after night. Ch7 is a mixed blessing.
